Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Today I purchased a Seagate Free Agent Go for my MacBook from Harvey Norman. I wanted an external drive that was both Mac and PC compatible. It says that an on-screen installer will automatically launch and to follow the on-screen instructions. Nothing happens at all. Have I purchased the wrong thing? I asked advice and was given this product. Thank you!

When I plug it into the USB the icon appears on the desk top but no start up appears as it should. Lights appear on the external drive itself. I can not save anything onto it, it says FREEAGENT CAN NOT BE MODIFIED.

Ok, first off when you plug in the hard drive is it recognized by the computer? Also do any lights or anything turn on, on the hard drive? Once I have more information I can assist you further. Worst case scenario would be to return the hard drive for a replacement one.
Thank you,
Lee

I just bought a Seagate 2 TB desktop drive for Mac and PC, it works on my PC but nothing happens on the MacBook

If the Seagate hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS then the MAC cannot read and write to this hard drive.
To exchange data between the PC and MAC then the Seagate hard drive needs to be formatted on a PC in FAT32 not NTFS.

Yes you can, but use the FAT32 format, it is the only format that both can read and write to.
