Screen Resolution How can i find out what driver i need to get a screen resolution to go above 640x480, my computer crashed and i have literally had to start from scratch, hence some of the drivers are missing, if i can download the right driver to improve the resolution i can get the computer back on line and re-download necessary drivers. The computer/tower is a Fujitsu-Siemens and the sreen is a dell i have managed to download the driver for the screen but once it is unzipped don't know where to go from there as the computer doesn't even acknowledge a monitor is installed in the device manager, so the very basic is recognised and can't update driver as the properties is not highlighted. Hope you can URGENTLY help me. Susie

Re: Screen Resolution

The best thing you do is; if the computer is dell you can download driver from dell website you only need the some information:

On the otherhand;
if the VGA is add on to the mainboard you need to get the model number of the card and search on to the manufacturer's website.

Re: Screen Resolution

Are you sure you have connected a graphics card. If so you dont need any driver because the graphics card depending on the model has already the necessary driver included just like when you first bought your motherboard.

Now, if your're only using the onboard graphics( that is the graphics card of the motherboard itself), you have to check whether the graphics supports resolution higher than 640x800. On board graphics, as far as i know contains only the necessary that will output on your screen, it means the resolution should not go much higher. But, you still have to check.

For assurance and for the best picture you wanted to have(probably your'e playing high resoulution games), I suggest that you buy the necessary graphics card that is supported by the games. Example of such brand is inno3d series.

How do I get missing Icons back on my PC screen

The higher the resolution, the more likely you will be able to see your icons.
1. Open Display in Control Panel. 2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply. 3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment. 4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting. Note
• To open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. • A higher screen resolution reduces the size of items on your screen and increases the relative space on your desktop • You can switch your screen resolution temporarily to 640 X 480 if you have games or other programs that are set to run at that resolution. To switch, right-click the game or program (on the desktop or on the Start menu), and then click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and then select the Run in 640x480 screen resolution check box. Your display reverts to its default resolution when you close the program. • Your monitor and video adapter determine how much you can change your screen resolution. You may not be able to increase the resolution above a certain level. • Changes to screen resolution affect all users that log on to the computer. • Only the recommended screen resolutions are listed. For additional settings, click the Advanced button on the Settings tab, click the Adapter tab, and then click List all Modes. Select the resolution, color level, and refresh rate you want.

Your monitor needs to be a high resolution monitor which supports 1280X1024. If is not then this is why your monitor keeps going back to 640x480. If it is a hi res monitor then you may need to update your drivers. If it is a Windows machines simply click the task bar>>control panel>>enter "Windows Update" in search box then click it and your drivers will be updated

Graphics drivers windows 7

Right click on the desktop and a pop up menu will appear. Three items off the bottom select 'Screen Resolution' and click it. A new window will appear, in the centre are 4 options, choose the drop down menu (small black triangle) against Resolution. It will most likely be showing 640x480 in the window. Click the drop down menu and select your required resolution, the best one for your video card will have (recommended) against it. Click OK and wait for your screen to refresh. You should see a confirmation message asking to OK the change. If you do not see that DO NOT TOUCH any keys or buttons for a minute or so. If the screen went black and stayed that way you have chosen the wrong one. By leaving the keys alone for a minute, the display will automatically revert to the last setting thereby giving you the option to try a different setting. If you touch anything whilst the screen is black you may not see anything again, be warned!

It only displays 4bits

If your computer monitor displays 4 bit color and a resolution of 640X480 and you cannot increase the color bit and the screen resolution then the display graphics card driver was not installed or the wrong graphics driver was installed.
Install or re-install the correct graphics card driver.

Can't view connected Dell Inspiron 9400 computer on Toshiba 37 AV52U TV

You need to change your computer display settings following your TV user manual.

Here follow the compatible display settings as on page 57-chapter 9 on manual.

Put resolution 640x480 and frequency 59,940Htz.

Here the user manual where you can find the same information on chapter 9.

See How to change display settings: screen resolution, screen

Do not forget to evaluate the solution.

Many thanks.

I have a computer with mother board P4I45GV. I had to re-install windows. Updated drivers. The screen resolution changes to 640x480 and when booting the system, it re-configures the resolution to 1280x1024...

hold down f10 when computer starts, go into safe mode and change the graphics setting there. then reboot your computer this should solve any problems your having.
