I took the vcr to my brother..he opened it, it wasnt the band
it seems that one of the infrared sensors isnt working properly
as soon as the cover is on the vcr, there is no light going to the sensor, so that caused for the cassette not to go inside and for the vcr to turn off
my brother is still doing tests with the sensors, either the vcr will be without the cover or he may try to replace the sensor... once he does it, if it works, I'll tell you

I am currently having the same problem. It worked fine and was the best player I've ever used, then I unplugged it one night, and this is the problem I had the next morning when I tried to finish watching the cassette. it hasn't played anything since. I put in a tape, it turns for a bit, then power shuts off and it just unwinds the tape. I've had to take the cover off to get the tapes out.

I did notice that a foam thing that pushes the tape to the drum has fallen off.

Could I have shorted something by unplugging it?

Oraliax, did you ever get it to work?

My emerson EWV603 vcr. When I turn it on or when I insert a videocasette, the screen is blue. How do I get to the menu stuff so that I can program my vcr?

Sounds like your VCR & TV are on different channels.
The VCR's ouput is channel 3 or 4. Try turning your TV to either channel and see if you get a picture. OR try playing the tape and after 2 or 3 seconds, push the play button again for a few seconds to change the VCR's ouput channel.

Call tech support! That's why these people get paid. Sites like this wouldn't need to exist if they did their jobs correctly!

What do I do when my Emerson TV keeps turning off by itself?

This is probably due to dry solders in the power supply area of the tv... next time when it powers off give it a whack on the side and see if will just light up for a moment.. If it doesn't just open the tv and check for dry solders, loose contacts and faulty capacitors.. PS:I would not task some one without experience in electronics to handle this one. This shouldn't cost you much even if you hire a tech anyway..

SD-V592SU: static noise

That's a stumper.

Personally, I have a simular unit and I just leave it on all the time.

Other than that, borrow a DVD or VCR or combo from a friend and see if it does the same thing. At least you can narrow it down to the combo player or the TV.

My Tv is turning off by itself

if all you want to do is disable the vcr portion turn the set on , install a blank vhs tape it has to be blank or the vcr will try to read it .and the tv and dvd should work fine. this is a timing problem in the vcr deck its not hard to fix but it is a pain.

The mechanism on this vcr is out of alighnment. its probably a defective mode switch assy or a gear or cam has broken . This is not worth the trouble, time, or money to send into a repair shop. Time to get a new one . Good Luck
