Question about Dell Docking Station for Latitude D600

2 Answers

I have a Latitude D630 laptop and I recently purchased a docking station to use with it. I tried my laptop's PA12 Power adapter When I initially connected everything and placed the laptop on the dock an initial message appeared stating . Your power adapter does not supply enough power to run the attached docking station I have now the correct PA-10 Family power supply putting out 90W 19.5V 4.62A. I have verified that the power supply is putting out the correct measurements. The laptop now has BIOS Revision A12 Now the message is: " it said that it can not determine what sort of power supply I have. Not sure what else to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. I believe I have all the right components and updates to make this combo work.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the device while connecting the alternate power supply?

Try updating to BIOS to version A16 from http://support.dell.com Ensure you are not attached to the docking station when flashing the BIOS. Once updated, connect the 90W adapter to the docking station, connect your laptop to the dock, and power on using the docking station power button.

Check whether or not there is any debris in the docking station connector. Be careful NOT to use a metallic object to remove any debris, since you risk shorting-out a connection and killing your system board.
If that does not resolve the issue, then something has failed within either the laptop or the docking station.
One thing for certain, it sounds as if your battery has reached the end of its usable life and you'll need to buy a new one and recycle the old one.

There's a "slide-away" coverv on the bottom of the laptop, where the docking-station's adapter would connect. Manually slide the cover, and inspect to ensure that there's nothing stuck there that is "tricking" the laptop into claiming that it is docked.

MY D630 LAPTOP DOES NOT WORK IN DOCKING STATION

When powering on the D630 from the Docking Station, press F2 to go into Setup. Scroll down to the Docking Section, and check the Dock device info for the status. If it shows undocked, then try changing the below settings to: Hot Undock, Enabled Silent, and Universal Connect Enabled. Save these settings. Make sure you update your BIOS to A16 from http://support.dell.com under drivers and downloads section. If still not recognized after this, check the dock port on the D630 for obstructions or burn markings on the pins. try cleaning with rubbing alcohol and qtip swab. I have seen a few cases like this and ultimately the motherboard was the issue and needed to be replaced.

Laptop won't dock

The inspiron 600M will not function in a D-Dock, but will work in a D-Series port Replicator. (Although the D600 and 600M share the same motherboard, the bottom plastics are different)

After trying the 600M in the D-Dock, it is possible the dock is damaged. I would undock the D630, then delete the docked profile. power off, dock, and reboot and see if it detects and works.

D630 docked , ext mouse & kybd not responding

If the docking station has power:

Make sure power is off for both the laptop and the docking station. Plug your keyboard and mouse into the docking station. Dock the D630 to the docking station and then power on docking station. This should then turn on your D630. Your D630 should detect the keyboard and mouse.

If the docking station has no power:

Verify that the power cord, AC adaptor, etc. is plugged in. If the items listed seem to be in order,
there may be a problem with the power going into the docking station. (AC adaptor?)

support.dell.com will have the specific details for your D630 and your docking station, et al.

Please let me know if you have success in this.
