Diagnosis: "The blower is not up to speed". What does this mean and how do I check or replace it?

Trace the blower motor wires to the inverter board. It clearly states blower on the inverter board. With an Ohm's meter, check yellow/yellow, red/red, and blue. You should have an approximate resistance value of 14. On mine, it was around 15.2 - 14.9. You must take off he top control panel to access the inverter board. Make sure that the blower motor is getting up to speed. Unfortunately, in order to replace the blower motor, you will have to take your unit apart, drum and all.

I have a 2007 HHR, my temp gauge stops working and the same time the a/c stops blowing cold air...I called myself checking fuses and a relay, can you help?


You mean the blower motor stops blowing air , the A/C compressor is still engaged ? The temp gauge shouldn't have anything to do with the blower motor .But stranger things have happened on these systems when they are controlled by a electronic module (BCM )
Circuit/System Description
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The ECM sends the temperature data via high speed GMLAN serial data to the body control module (BCM). The BCM then sends the information via low speed GMLAN to the IPC in order to display the engine temperature.
The BCM applies voltage to the blower motor through the HVAC relay. The resistors and the blower motor are in a series circuit. The following list represents the number of resistors in series with the blower motor per particular speed request:
• Low speed--4 resistors
• Medium 1 speed--3 resistors
• Medium 2 speed--2 resistors
When the operator requests High speed, the HVAC control assembly applies ground directly to the blower motor through the high blower motor control circuit.

96 acura tl 2.5l. havc diagnosis only indicates a fault in the blower motor circuit. The 30 amp fuse under the hood is fine. The relay in the under dash bank is good. High speed relay is good and...


power flows from fuse to blower motor relay. From there it flows to blower motor. Blower motor receives ground from two different places depending on which speed you choose. If you choose high speed, it gets ground through the blower motor high relay. If you choose any other speed, it gets ground through the power transistor below the right side of the dash. The power transistor regulates fan speed by pulsing ground on and off based on the speed you've set. Power transistor is most common failure point in these systems

My a/c and heater do not work at all. what could be the problem?


I assume that you mean that there is no forced air coming out your vents. If this is what you mean, your blower motor or your blower motor speed control unit is bad. The blower motor speed control unit is only used on automatic climate control - if you have manual A/C, then your car does not have one. I have seen many times where the blower motor was ready to fail anyway, and the extra amperage used by the defective blower motor is what caused the speed control failure...it may be necessary to replace both to keep from having to repeat the repair.

2005 kia spectra blower dont come on for the heater


The 2005 Spectra heating system comprises 4 main components and its associated wiring.

1. Blower Relay- supplies power to the blower motor when the key is in the on position

2. Blower motor- Located in the right side dashboard area near the passengers right foot. ( photo attached)

3. Resistor- located on the ground side of the circuit to control speeds 1 thru 3. Note" High speed bypasses this component.

4. A/C Control Module- This is the control pad in the dashboard with the blower speed controls.

The easiest way to diagnose this circuit is to split the circuit in half to determine if you have a power supply problem, ground control problem or a failed component. From your concern I am going to assume that none of the speeds work. If some of the speeds work let me know which ones and I will revise the diagnosis tree I made for you.

Key state for all tests is Key on/Engine off. Heater on and blower setting between 1 and 4.

Step 1. Verify the 30Amp blower fuse in the underhood fuse box has power and is not "Blown.

Step 2. Locate the blower motor by removing the lower kick panel on the passenger side dashboard and glove box. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver.

Step 3. Disconnect the two pin connector at the blower Connector G-02 in the attached photo. The red and blue wire is the power supply wire to the motor so with the key on/engine off check for power with a test light or volt meter. Spec: Battery Voltage. If good proceed to step 4. If no power proceed to step

Step 3.a.- the blower relay above the blower (connector G-06) and verify you have power leaving the relay. This is the red and blue wire ( Pin 4) I attached a photo of the connector to help locate the correct wire. If you have power at this pin the relay is working and you have an open between the relay and the blower motor. If you do not have power at this pin proceed to step 3.b. Verify that the relay clicks when you disconnect it from the harness and plug it back in. If it "clicks" and you have no power at pin 4 you have a bad relay. If it does not click you will need to check the power supplies to the relay. These are pins 3 (blue wire) and Pin 5 (Red wire). Be careful to check the correct blue wire as the other blue is the ground for the relay. (Pin 1). If you do not have power at either wire you have an open in the harness and further diagnosis will be needed. If you do have power at these wires then check the remaining blue wire for a ground. If you do not have a ground you may have a bad control module. To check this remove the plastic cover around the control head and radio and remove the control head from its mounting but leave plugged in to the harness. Check the white and blue wire in pin 21 of the large connector. It is located 3 pins in from the bottom left of the connector. (See attached photo). If you do not have a ground then you have a bad control module. To verify this you can ground this wire with a test light or fused wire and see if the relay "Clicks". If you do have a ground at this pin then you have an open between the relay and control head.

Step 4. - Ground check- Go to the blower motor connector and check the green and red ground wire (Pin 2) for a ground with the blower switch set to 4. This bypasses the resistor easing diagnosis. If you have a ground then the blower motor is at fault. If you do not have a ground proceed to step 5.

Step 5. Access the control head large connector. Leaving it plugged into the control head check pin 23 (Yellow black wire in the lower left corner of the connector) and verify you have a ground. If you do not have a ground you have a faulty control module. 2004 acura mdx. turn on air conditioner - no air blows from front. rear air blows, but not cool. cannot hear compressor coming on. checked fuses - they look okay.


I have the same problem with my MDX. I live in the Bahamas and there are no Acura dealerships here. I had two mechanics look at it and they could not fix the problem, so I took matters into my own hands. After checking for blown fuses I did a self diagnosis on the climate control panel, I got a DTC that related to a fault in the blower motor circuit. I went through the step by step diagnosis of the circuit and found that the blower motor was faulty. Acura's climate control has a couple sensor that monitor the blower speed, if the sensor do not detect that the blower is running they will not allow the compressor to run, in essence the rear blower will run but the system will not cool. You may need to replace the blower. The quickest way to check if the blower is faulty is to pull the connector off the blower, turn the iignition on and the ac system on, You should get battery voltage on the connector. If you have battery voltage at the connector and the fan doesn't run the youv'e solved the problem. If you don't have voltage at the connector with the ignition switch on and the ac system on you problem could be the front blower power transistor. Blower motor does not operate at any speed,will not work at all when switch is turned on. Fuses look fine.Thank you


Try replacing the fan resistor they are about $40.00. The resistor is located on the side ( usually the underside ) of the heater box under dash below the glove box.

My air conditioner is not working on my 2002 BMW X-5. The air is cool it just won't blow out.

It controls blower speed from a signal from the ihka (a/c control panel). the final stage receives the signal from the ihka of the drivers preference blower speed. the final stage pwm (pulse width modulates) the blower motor. which means it turns it off and on very quickly to speed up or slow down the blower motor speed. It isn't the easiest part to replace. Usually at a dealership i would expect to pay somewhere around $600 (including diagnosis)but don't hold me to it. bmw dealerships stand behind their repairs and usually include a warranty with the part of 2 years unlimited mileage.

Blower fan only works on high speed

RESISTOR-BLOWER MOTOR
DESCRIPTION
The blower motor resistor is mounted to the HVAC air
inlet housing, directly behind the glove box. The
blower motor resistor consists of a molded plastic
mounting plate (1) with an integral wire connector
receptacle (2). Concealed behind the mounting plate
are coiled resistor wires contained within a ceramic
heat sink (3). The blower motor resistor is accessed
for service by removing the glove box from the instrument
panel.
The blower motor resistor is accessed for service by
removing the glove box from the instrument panel.
OPERATION
The blower motor resistor is connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated wire lead and connector
of the HVAC wire harness. The blower motor resistor has multiple resistor wires, each of which will reduce the
current flow through the blower motor to change the blower motor speed.
The blower motor control in the MTC heating-A/C system directs the ground path for the blower motor through the
correct resistor wire to obtain the selected speed. With the blower motor control in the lowest speed position, the
ground path for the blower motor is applied through all of the resistor wires. Each higher speed selected with the
blower motor control applies the blower motor ground path through fewer of the resistor wires, increasing the blower
motor speed.
The blower motor resistor cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if faulty or damaged (such as a cracked ceramic heat
sink), it must be replaced.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering
wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the
negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before
performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to
take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and possible personal injury or
death.
NOTE: For circuit descriptions and diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information
includes wiring diagrams, proper wire and connector repair procedures, further details on wire harness
routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors,
splices and grounds.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the blower motor resistor (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/
CONTROLS/RESISTOR-BLOWER MOTOR - REMOVAL).

3. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between all of the blower motor resistor terminals. In each case there
should be continuity. If OK, repair the wire harness circuits between the blower motor switch and the blower
motor resistor or blower motor as required. If not OK, replace the faulty blower motor resistor.
REMOVAL
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering
wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the
battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before
performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to
take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and possible personal injury or
death.
WARNING: The blower motor resistor may get very hot during normal operation. If the blower motor was
turned on prior to servicing the blower motor resistor, wait five minutes to allow the resistor to cool before
performing diagnosis or service. Failure to take this precaution can result in personal injury or death.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the glove box (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT
PANEL/GLOVE BOX - REMOVAL).
3. Disengage the wire harness connector locking tab
and disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from
the blower motor resistor (2).
4. Remove the two screws (3) that secure the blower
motor resistor to the HVAC housing (4).
5. Remove the blower motor resistor from the HVAC
housing.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the blower motor resistor (2) into the
HVAC housing (4).
2. Install the two screws (3) that secure the blower
motor resistor to the HVAC housing. Tighten the
screws to 2 N·m (17 in. lbs.).
3. Connect the wire harness connector (1) to the
blower motor resistor and engage the wire harness
connector locking tab.
4. Install the glove box (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT
PANEL/GLOVE BOX - INSTALLATION).
5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
