Question about Lexmark X5150 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I have purchased the Lexmark X 4550 today. I have installed the program, but I have a problem with the scan mode. When I press scan mode the message on the control panel reads: Downloading application list, but after a minute the message reads: cannot retrieve application list.
Also on my c.p. screen I get the following message:
Device monitor application has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I rang Adam on 1300 362 192 and tried to explain the problem. He was very helpful but it is difficult over the phone to get a clear picture.
Therefore I hope with this e-mail that you can give me some advice and feedback how to solve this problem

I have the following installed:
Lexmark 3500-4500 series size 136.00 MB
Lexmark Fax solutions size 35.29 MB
Lexmark Toolbar size 5.46 MB

Ok, folk, I have solved this same issue with my Lexmark X4530 and running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. It turned out to be a Windows Firewall issue. I could have just turned off my firewall, but I opted to keep it one and just EXCLUDE all four running processes that the driver loads. Here are the four programs I excluded on my firewall:
C:\Program Files\Lexmark 3500-4500 Series\lxdiamon.exe
C:\Program Files\Lexmark 3500-4500 Series\lxdimon.exe
The above files may be in different locations than what I have listed, especially the last one. The best way to find where these files are running from is to right click on your task bar and choose Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and look for all the processes running that start with lx....
Righ click on each of those processes and choose Properties. It will display the path the file is located at. In your Windows Firewall, go to the Exclusions tab and then Add Program. Click on the Browse button and navigate to that file and select it and click on OK. Do that for all four processes.
After I excluded all of those files, the printer works exactly like it is supposed to!

Hello, this is my first time writing to one of these posts. I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but if anyone having these problems with the Lexmark Printer 3550-4550 uses a Registry Cleaner such as RegCure or Ccleaner, sometimes after you run one of their "scans" it will delete temp. files & installation files (or what it thinks are those files) that lexmark needs to perform certain functions.
Also, I found out from my own experiance, that with lexmark, when you go to scan something to your computer, it's best after launching the lexmark program, do not select "scan to computer" from your Desktpo/laptop, just use the control on the printer itself. Select scan from the button on the printer. Works every time for me. I hope this can help someone out there a little. John

Unplug power and USB cable to printer for 30 secs. Plug the power back in and reboot your pc. When it is up and running plug in the USB.
Go to My Computer and right click on it and then click on properties. On the next
screen click on Hardware and then Device Manager. You will see a ? Other Devices or Lexmark USB Printer. Click the +sign, then right click on what comes up and click on properties. Check to see if driver installed. If not put in the CD that came with your printer and then click to install driver. Reboot when the process is completed.
When the system comes back up, power up your printer if it isn't already on. Before
pressing the SCAN button, sign onto the Internet. When signed on, press the SCAN button. The Application list be be requested for download and should complete this time. Hope this works.

I finally figured it out!!!
I am running XP and have the Lexmark X4530. I am plugged in via USB. Whenever I would try to scan, I would press the scan button on the printer and get this error message "Cannot retrieve application list". How I solved it is very simple and I feel like a total moron.
1. Start the lexmark image studio program from start>all programs
2. In the lexmark imagge studio dialog, choose scan
3. On the printer, press scan mode
4. On the printer the digital screen will finally ask where you want to scan to!!
5. Once you have selected where you want to scan to, select the start color or b&w button!
WA LA.....I can't believe all this time I thought it was something with the software unknowing you just need to turn the freaking lexmark image studio on first. HOPE THIS HELPS!

I had this problem and a problem starting Quickbooks after installing the Microsoft .NET 2.0 SP1 update. I uninstalled my Lexmark 1400 Series drivers, rebooted and went through the procedure in this Quickbooks support article. Then I reinstalled my Lexmark software and all is well so far.

As the panel says downloading app list, open the top copier door! I think this is what actually did it 4 me after making sure the firewall stuff was correct and allowing file sharing( which i need to change back now) good luck

First of all answer me the following questions --
1. What is the operating system of your computer - win xp or win vista
2. How old it is ?
3. Have you ever tried to install this printer on other computer and checked scanning ?
4. DO u use this printer as wireless or on USB
5. Can you scan from scanners and cameras (Goto Start >> Control panel >> scanners and cameras )

I was having a problem with my lexmark 4530 not scanning. It printed and copied just fine, but would not scan. It got as far as saying "downloading application list." After that it said could not download. I did some seaching and it turned out I had a spyware program called windows defender installed that was causing the problem. Check to see if you have that or any other spyware software that might be blocking the printers communication with your pc.

For anyone using Vista and getting this problem, uninstall your driver and reinstall the XP drivers. They seem to work fine with vista and it has also solved my scanning problem. I have the x4530

The only way I got it to scan is to go to My Computer, right click on Lexmark 3500-4500 series then click scan. Works fine.

I had to make sure that my windows defender and firewall were not blocking the communications. After that mine seemed to run fine but I have a problem trying to use the lexmark fax solutions software that came with my printer. Does anyone know if there is a way to get it to work on a wireless network? I have the x4530 and I am using vista with a wireless router and wireless modem.

We have this 4530 printer and both my wife and I have laptops. My wife's laptop always works perfect... I always get the error. I was trying to figure out what was different between the two computers. Hers is running Windows Vista, versus my Windows XP. Also, our anti-viruses were different. I changed from using AVG anti-virus to Trend anti-virus. When I first did it, for the first few days, everything worked great. I'd get the error once in a while but, for the most part, it worked great. This morning, I couldn't get it to work, getting the same error. I need to figure out what changed from last night to now. Maybe it was just a fluke this morning.

After upgrading to a USB 2.0 PCI card, I decided to try one more time to uninstall/install the printer. It's been 6 days, and the message has not reappeared.

For those of you that reinstalled the Lexmark software and were getting a "Lexmark Device Monitor has encountered a problem and needs to close." error everytime you started your computer, the fix is to install the missing FAX and OCR software that came on the original install CD. Even if you're not using the FAX software, you must install it. Once you install everything, the error goes away.

That`s easy. Until Lexmark fixes THEIR problems, I`m not going to buy any of their products any more. Return the faulty merchandise to where you purchased it and demand a full refund. Obviously Lexmark is aware of this problem, and yet they continue to sell these defective printers. They have no pride in their products, ( and for good reason ) and no respect for us. I suggest we return the favor !!! BUY HP !

you know some of the operating system if there is a corrupted file or dll some of the printers, USB and other devices in-counter this kind of problem you need to fix first your operating system then after that remove your printer driver and re-install again then then try to scan again..... hope this solution help you...

Tips for a great answer:
From the home screen, navigate to Scan to Computer: Scan > Scan to Computer
Touch USB-Connected Computer or the name of a network computer. The local or
network computer is the destination that will receive the scan. Wait until the
printer has finished downloading a list of the scan applications available on
the selected computer.
Select an application (in your case your email), and then touch Accept.
Select the color, resolution quality and the original image size. If necessary,
touch Accept each time you make a selection.
Press the start button to start scanning. The scan is complete when the application you selected
in step 4 opens on the destination computer, and the scan appears within the
application as a new file.
To scan to your computer using the printer software (Lexmark Printer Home):
Click All Programs or Programs, and then select the printer program folder from
Select Printer Home.
Choose your printer from the printer drop-down list.
Click Email, and then select Photo, Document or PDF.
You can select Document only if an OCR application is stored on your computer.
Scanning starts and the scan progress dialog appears.
When the scan
is finished, a new e-mail message is created with the scanned document
Compose your e-mail message. Note: If your e-mail program does not open
automatically, then you can scan the document to the computer and then send it
through e-mail as an attachment.
From the Finder desktop, double-click the printer program folder.
Double-click the printer Center to open the All-In-One Center.
From the "What is being scanned?" menu on the main screen, select a document
From the "How will the scanned image be used?" menu, choose To be viewed on
From the "Send scanned image to" menu, choose an application.
Retrieve the scanned image from the application, and then send it through
e-mail as an attachment.
