Question about Video Cameras

Panasonic Digital Video Camera (Mini DV) - horizontal stripes

I suspect I have caused the problem myself but looking for confirmation. I have a 7 year old Panasonic Digital Video Camera (Mini DV) (which I have never had a problem with) and thinking that I was doing the right thing in maintaining it ran the head cleaning tape (as per instructions) - something that I can never recall doing. Low and behold I now have a machine that records and playback the images that I have recorded but have horizontal white lines (sometimes with colored dots) interspersed. Have I managed to cooked the heads somehow? Suggestions? Thanks for your time.

GR-D30U video camera. When I playback the recording, I have what appear to be like window shutters across the image. They are black and are evenly spaced.

Horizontal stripes?? why

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

I have windows 7 and want to put my movies onto computer

The chances are that a USB cable from your PC wont work on any windows newer than XP, you like myself will need Firewire cable from a good camera store.

Thick stripes on the recording on mini dv tapes

Stripes are either caused by -
Bad tape - try a new tape
Dirty tape head - can it be cleaned? Cotton wool bud and some metho?
Electronic fault.
Try a different tape first.
If that doesn't help, clean the head. Is it under warranty?

Try to find same battery charger or camera and do Cross-Check, hook new charger with camera and confirm charging process and hook your charger in other same camera and confirm is it working? You will rectify the problem unit, either camera or charger.

Horizontal stripes on play back

the stripes are caused from one of the heads on the dd cylinder not updating. you need to stick a head cleaner in, if that does not solve the problem then either the head is going need a thorough clean or it is damaged. it will need replacing.

My Hitachi VM H710A plays just fine, and the picture looks fine. But when it playsback footage or records footage, five to ten seconds later, it stops abruptly, and flashes the word "TAPE". First thing I must add, is that I was using a prerecorded videotape, and was testing it from the beginning of the cassette and the middle of the cassette. I thought maybe the heads were dirty, and so I cleaned them using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. I cleaned the head drum with a piece of paper soaked with rubbing alcohol so that I wouldn't get any fibres in the heads. I waited for it to dry and then I put a cleaning cassette inside. To which, it still stopped abruptly five to ten seconds in during playback. I then decided to look at the manual of the camcorder and see the symptom. It says that due to temperature changes that it might cause this symptom. I placed it in a cool room and left it there all day and checked on it, and the camcorder is still doing the same thing as before hand. Then another cause said that it might sense some moisture. I made sure that the camcorder was dry externally and internally, and yet still, same problem. Thats when I decided to take it apart and look inside to see if there was anything odd inside the camcorder causing it to function the way it does. The belt seemed to be working fine, and there was no missing parts. The tracking poles and path alignment was fine, and not loose. Everything simply seemed just fine. So I am unsure as to why my camcorder is operating like this.
