For Windows XP:
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections ....
or
Start > Control Panel > Network & Internet Connections > Network Connections....
For Windows VISTA:
Start > Network > Network & Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections (Onleft, near bottom of task list, NOT "Manage Wireless Network Connections"
Right click on your wireless network connection and select view available wireless networks or connect to network. You should see any wireless networks in range.
If there is no Icon, try going into your hardware settings and verify that windows does see the wireless card. If not try reinstalling the drivers for that device.
I have reviewed your problem and have the fallowing for you to aces.
If you have a working wireless network or wireless router ( hub ), you should have little problems fallowing these steps.
First, their are several ways to connect to the wireless. (1) You can run a hard line from your router, temporarily which is the easiest way.
Plug in to your router using the RJ-45 connections on the router and your laptop. (2) go to my network in your program or desktop.
On the left side choose setup a wireless connection and fallow the prompts. (3) After completed, disconnect your hard-wire connection and on the lower right side, you should see available network connections. (4) Choose the network connection you are using at your home. Then choose connect.
(5) On the bottom left side you should see a internet icon, click on it and you should have access.
If you want to put a internet icon on your desktop, you can open programs and drag and drop to your desktop.
The other way to connect would involve setting up your router or hub on your laptop using the original software.

visit this link. Once you get to viewing the wireless network in wireless connections right click it and click view available wireless networks and then connect to your wireless network. You can't create a new network this way. The "network" is created when you set up the router. I will be more then happy to assist you until you get it working but please wait until requesting further assistance and hopefully you have found my assistance helpful and will accept/rate my solution accordingly.

that is not how it works. I am a microsoft certified professional. You have to have the wireless network created so you can connect to the wireless network from your IEEE. Unless I am misunderstanding your problem then please consider my solution as I have dealt with thousands of networks. You have to set up your wireless connection so you can have the internet. I am not sure how I can explain it any other way.

Then it sounds like your wireless adapter drivers aren't installed correctly. You will want to check device manager. There should be an icon because that would signify there is a wireless device installed on your computer.

The wizard doesn't let you connect to a network, it only lets you create another one.
I don't want to create a new network, I just want to connect to one that's already there? Can anyone give me a step-by-step?
I haven't got the wireless network connection icon in the network connections panel so I can't right click on it.
The laptop I'm writing from is on the network so that is obviously set up. How do I set it up on my eee?
I don't want to create a network because it has already been created on another computer, I just want to be able to connect to it.
