Question about D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-2000AP 802.11g/b Wireless Access Point

2 Answers

I just set up a netgear router and a lynksys expander. All my laptops work, but iphone & itouch will not. Seems as though the password has changed. Can this happen? How can I find the password? When I type in the IP it gives me a message that another IP address is controlling the devbice?

First you will need to check the settings of the wireless network. for this you will need to access the router set up page. Connect a computer to the router. Check the IP address on the computer . Default gateway will be the IP address of the router . You will use the default gateway number to access the rotuer set up page. Where you can check the settings of your network. If you did not configure the Netgear wireless router and changed the default settings and the default password password, then your wireless system is open to anyone hacking into your system and change your wireless router's settings and they can hack into your computers and your Internet connection. The Linksys expander will increase the wireless range to give a wider coverage to your router.
I suggest you reset the Netgear back to the factory defaults (press the pinhole button on the back of the Netgear router until the LEDs flash then release this button,
The configure the Netgear as follows :-
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

My iPhone 4 will not connect to my wireless router EVEN THOUGH I'm using the correct password. It tells me it is the wrong password. All other devices (netbooks, laptops) connect with no problem.

There are 3 things to try:
1: reset router
2: on iPhone, Settings, General, Reset, reset Network Settings.
(this erases all saved network settings, if you use other wifi, you will have to set them up again in the iPhone)
3: Change the password on the router, try to use a 13 character password if possible, as this seems to sometimes help.

If all that doesn't work, then you may have an issue with the phone itself.

Iphone doesn't work with router Dell 1184 broadband router in my house works with windows laptops but not Apple iPhone or iTouch. I have had the router/software installed for 5 years, is there new software...

you said the laptop is connected to the network.
when you try to connect to the wireless network on the i-touch or i-phone, do you see your network.
if your network is secured then you must enter the correct password for the wireless. If you are not sure about the wireless key or the password then you will need to open the router set up page and check the wireless settings.
you can also try to upgrade the firmware ( software) of the router.

Apple ipod itouch connection to wireless internet

It's since the touch doesn't officially support WPA PSK and only supports WPA2. What will work is WEP and although it is less secure very few people will bother cracking your network. If you continue to have problems with your secured connection try putting the hex key instead of the passphrase (you set hello as your password the hex would something like 0X34Hg65) it is usually displayed just beneath the password you set.

Are you sure you are entereing the correct passphrase, or is it a network key (usually entered in Hexadecimal). Is your Netgear router set up to use WEP or WPA or equivalient security?

Have a look at this thread. That may offer some insight.

Re: IPhone doesn't connect with wifi automatically - password not recoginized HELP!!!

Yep, I had the same problem with my iPhone as well (32GB 3GS).
Had the signal NO problem for about a week then POOF it was gone. WTF?
Prowled the boards looking for a solution.
Tried resetting the phone, resetting the Wi-Fi, switching airplane mode on and off, forgetting the network, etc.

HERE'S YOUR SOLUTION :
Go unplug your wireless router's power cord.
Wait 30 seconds.
Plug it back in.

Your iPhone will reconnect, and you'll be back in business.
