My lg tv turns off after 20 minutes and then needs 10 minutes to turn on again

My LG model 50LA6970-UE, a smart, 3D tv purchased in late 2013 from Sam's Club, began to periodically lose the picture, while the sound stayed on. When this first began happening, I attributed it to a black-out while the TV was downloading new firmware, or some other software activity, since the picture would return after a few seconds. The problem became progressively worse, however, until the screen would sometimes go black for minutes at a time, repeatedly. I tried all the usual simple things recommended on the web, such as unplugging the set overnight, leaving it on for 24 hours, checking for new firmware, to no avail.
Having some basic electronic skill, and not afraid to open up just about any device, I thought I would take the back off the set and do a visual check for bad capacitors, fried board, or anything else that might be a clue to the problem. Everything looked good. After more internet research, I determined the problem might be with the board connectors, and thought that was worth a try.
So, I methodically and carefully disconnected every ribbon connector on each board, and, with an old, clean toothbrush, scrubbed the connector contacts with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Then I re-attached the connector, and continued until ALL the connectors had been so treated.
I then waited until the next morning for the contacts and surrounding board area to get thoroughly dry before replacing the back, and powering on the set.
And, like magic, the picture re-appeared! This was done in mid-2015, and the problem has been completely eliminated.
So, work slowly and deliberately, and you may be as fortunate as I was in resolving this pesky, intermittent problem, for absolutely NO cost!

Good Luck!

The screen turns blue after about 2 minutes of turning on the TV

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

My Philips 36'' CRT TV won't turn on.

Hi - Yes. There are high voltage components in your CRT TV that only a certified TV repair shop should repair. And the cost of that would likely be over $100 so you are definitely better off getting a new LCD TV. You will also save a great deal of electricity with your new TV, my 55" only uses $19 worth of electricity a year. And the picture is much better as well.
Have fun shopping!

White line on the middle of the screen

No you cannot solve this yourself unless you have a soldering iron with solder plus be able to identify dry joints or defective capacitors. Please take to a TV service centre.

Takes awhile for tv to come on!

Hello Ruben,
This type of failure is common on these TVs. The power supply might need to be replaced due to bulging capacitors. If you are able to replaced the capacitors, it is a cheaper alternative.

Sony Trinitron KV35V35

Could be a weak Picture tube . You can try turning up the screen control but don't turn it up too much you'll get retrace lines in the picture . Turn it alittle at time until picture comes on then turn it down until the retrace lines go away . Then try turning the tv on and off to make sure it comes back on. Be careful you can get shocked if you do this while it is on and you touch one of the circuits . The control is on the flyback or the module thats on the picture tube it will say screen by it . If this does not work you could have vidoe problems or just the picture is no good . Good luck

Sony 27"TV will not turn on

The picture tube on your tv is dead, you need to replace it. It probably will be worthing just purchasing a new set, because the cost of repairing it will be close to the purchase of a new one.
