Microwave does not work unti, door slightly

Microwave does not work until door slightly raised. Do I need to do anything special to replace safety switches or test them? Is there a high capacity capacitor connected directly to switches that needs to be grounded first or can i just disconnect and remove switches to test with ohmmeter or somesuch?

The switchs do not need adjustment as I have adjusted them already physically where they are held per the ones supposed to be closed and the ones supposed to be open and it is obvious that it is a micro safety switch issue not door adjustment which by the way is not possible on this unit, plastic hinge bushings are good, no hinges bent etc. However the panel holding the switches is adjustable and I have done that.. My real question is do I need to short out the capacitor which on this built in unit is not easily accessible without removing the unit or is the interlock switch powered o the capacitor, does the capacitor bleed down when unplugged, can one leave the power on and unplug the unit to bleed down the capacitor while holding the door up for example?
Other folks on this posting familiar with this unit have said they just replaced the interlock switch them selves.
I would like someone to reply specifically familiar with this model to reply not general dire warnings about repairing microwaves. I don't have the money to pay a appliance repairman and except for the accessibility to the capacitor can easily do this on my own. repair people have quoted 80 service charge, 25 per 15 minutes additional, cost of the parts. About 175 bucks is ther estimate to replace a 20 dollar switch. Please help Thanks

This may not be the switch its self but its physical position in relation to the door acuator. either the switch needs adjustment or the door actuator or door itself. recommend certifed engineer advise on this problem.

warning: mircowave is a high energy, if doors are not seated correcly then energy may leak past door shielding and cause injury.

How do I fix a microwave that counts down and does not turn on?

Appears to need a replacement door switch, might just be cheaper to get a new microwave if it is old.
They are made to close tightly and sealed so you are not exposed to microwaves. Not sure how safe you are overriding the microwave safety feature standing nest to it holding door.

My microwave has stopped working. Everything functions properly, including the light when the door is open, and the timer countdown begins when I press start, but the actual unit will not turn on...

Sounds like a bad magnatron (the part that emits microwave energy) or maybe just a bad door switch. If the door switch is bad it won't let the unit come on.

Need to know correct size of microwave door glass for LG model MG-604w mine is broken after a fall, can I still use without glass?

NO, do not use the microwave with a broken door glass, this glass is specially protected to stop any dangerous microwave leakage, it is also something you cannot replace yourself, take it to a reputable service centre so that once the glass has been repaire the oven can be tested for safety purposes.

Disassemble to clean

If it is a microwave, don't disassemble anything. Clean what you can inside the oven and leave the rest well alone. Outside that you are dealing with lethal levels of electrical voltage and doses of radiation. Even treat the door seal with care because that is designed to prevent radiation leakage. There are special microwave cleaners available in stores for cleaning the parts that need cleaning. For your own safety, do not touch anything else.

Model KCMS1555R KitchenAid Microwave Oven turntable continues to operate even when the door is open. It seems to work otherwise. I disconnected it from the power hopping it would reset but that did not...

This is an extremely dangerous situation, if the microwave oven is running with the door open it means the safety interlock switches are not working the way they were designed to, and needs to be checked out for safety reasons. I recommend unplugging the device and not use it until it has been checked by a qualified technician.

How do I replace light bulb

Replacement of the lamp should be carried out by a qualified appliance repair service. The lamp is a special size!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

But here is a basic method if you are mechanically minded and have electrical safety knowledge.

The lamp is sat in a housing and its position is adjacent to the vent holes that it shines through.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity.
Remove the microwave cover. Purchasing a new replacement lamp will be useful as it will give you an idea of what it looks like. Locate the dead lamp remove the lamp and fit the new one. Replace the covers. Plug it back in and try the lamp by opening the door.
Hope this helps.

The microwave functions properly but does not heat anything.

Check your door safety interlock switches ...

When the switches dont work, the oven doesnt know the door is closed so I will not turn the heat on. They fail because the door is opened while the oven is runnning.

The other main reason for no heat is a failed capacitor. Do not try to service this (silver can) until you understand the danger. LETHAL

Remove the cover, find the little switches on the side of the door away from the hinge.

If you need more help, you can (a) search this site for microwave no heat or (2) let me know and I will help you.

not sure how technically inclined you are and whether you like taking things apart. it's either the door has become slightly warped or the hinge is abit loose or the safety switch needs adjustment. if it's the switch i'm not sure that can be adjusted from outside the machine.

How can it come on-but not really?

This is usually a bad door switch or door switch mount.

If it's less than one year old, it's under warranty and you should contact Frigidaire to get it fixed free.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya:
