Question about IBM ThinkPad (22P9163OB) (22P9163-OB) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

Drive does not recognize inserted disks

Thinkpad T61p with Vista Ultimate will most often not recognize a CD, usually prompts to format the blank disk - only it is not a blank disk it is a valid data CD. Drive is a DVD-R ATA and I am using the standard Windows driver dated 6/21/06 version 6.0.6000.16386. If I run the drive troubleshooter from Lenovo from it will magically start working again. Even rebooting will not get it to work so if I don't have internet access to get to the troubleshooter I am out of luck

Does not recognize disk

* the disk you're inserting is not "empty" -- try it on a different computer;
* you should try a different manufacturer of "blank" disks;
* you need to upgrade the "firmware" inside your CD-writer, to recognize more brands of "blank" media;
* the CD-reader is malfunctioning -- when you "cancel" the burn-attempt, and insert a commercially-produced program CD or commercially-produced audio CD, can those disks be properly read?
* you have two CD/DVD devices in your computer, and you're inserting the "blank" disk into the "wrong" device.

Cd/dvd isnt recognized in windows xp

There are many compatibility issues still with CD/DVD formats and disk drive manufacturer's.
Check the format of the disk (CD-RW, CD+RW, etc...)
Sounds like the drive isn't recognizing the format this disk was written in. Google CD/DVD format types for a better understanding.

Drive reports no disk even though a disk is inserted?

Does it do this with all disks - or just one?
If it is all disks, your drive is probably died or dying, if it is jjust one disk, then it could be the disk is faulty.
If it is a blank disk, it could be the wrong format - R instead of a +R, or vice a versa,

If it is only one disk and it is a data disk try using this to recover the data.

If this helped you then please help me by voting kindly, thank you.

right click on the drive.... go to properties... under tab recording, remove tick "enable CD recording on this drive" and press apply... after that tick "enable CD recording on this drive" and press OK.

DELL laptop does not read blank DVDs

the combo drive you listed above is a cd-rw/ DVD-ROM....meaning that it will play and burn cd, cd-r, and cd-rw disks. the dvd rom will only be able to play dvd-rom and dvd-r disks providing they are in the proper format. check that the disk in question is not a dvd-rw or (+2) disk. the drive will not recognize that a disk is in the drive if the disk isnt compatable. try a dvd movie, if that works then a dvd-r, if that works then try a dvd-rw +1. if the last option doesnt work then you will have to stick with the dvd-rom and dvd-r, or purchase a dvd-rw drive to install.

Dvd-rw drive malfunctioning

Please Check :-
1) Whether U R using the Proper NERO. I want to mean, try installing the NERO which was provided with the DVD-RW+ Drive.
2) Check whether there is a Firmware Upgrade available for your DVD-RW+ Drive with the help of provided CD/DVD and a compatible Software.

Dell cd-rw drive doesn't recognize when a disk is in it

You need to make sure your drive can read CD-RW. That is a different format than "+" and is not recognized in a lot of drives. Also, what software are you using to burn the document?
