That is an ink system failure code.

This happens alot using refillable and reset cartridges.

Try this..
1) unplug power
2) hold the power button and reinsert power cord
3) let the printer boot up

4) try it...if it works fixed.

Also HP has some special firmware upgrades available if you get hold of them by email or chat.

Also...don't tell them your using Non-HP ink, or they will drop your call like a hot potatoe.

You might try some HP inks and see if the cartridge change to HP works.

I want to use non HP Ink ! but this happened !!!

Send a test print to it from the printer properties. If you did not have any issues before you re-charged the printer cartridge, try another cartridge.

I'm getting an error 0xc18a0001 on my hp 3210 printer. What does it mean? How do i fix it?

Hello,

That code indicates the the printer has the "Ink System Failure" error. This is usually reset-able. That error is normally caused by air in the ink cartridge system. To clear the error you will need to do a purge. We have a free complete guide to perform the purge at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Error code U140 check ink because I used a non-OEM cartidge

You need to buy the ink with the new chip installed, or buy a resetter. The only way to print now is with a new cartridge either Canon, or with a new chip.

I have just installed a non hp colour cartridge into my f2180 series printer and am getting a message saying error with print cartridge and a red warning light on printer i know the cartridge is the right...

You are not alone all of a sudden lots of people are having problems with non original cartridges for many makes of printer

If you just bought them then you should take it back and exchange it or if you filled them yourself read on below.

Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.

Cheaper replacement cartridges are quite prone to this chip failing completely rendering even a new cartridge effectively useless

Re-filling them will have no effect

Should you fill your own then if you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the internet or maybe even local

OR

Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.

The second option is my preference

I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well

Filling your cartridge with non-HP ink won't cause an error. There are basically two reasons for ink system failure, The cartridge is no good or the ink system has failed. Some of these machines can be reset. But, try replacing cartridge first.

Ink Refill for HP Photosmart c7280 not working

Hi Lisa,

If it responds ok with the old cartridge then the problem is with the cartridges' chip not the printer. Probably the manufactor has a problem with certain cartridge chip (contact them!). I would suggest to use the original at the problematic spot if it works without a problem.
