I cannot even get into the desktop.. I am sorry if I am not explaining it where you understand. I would say that leecom 72 is right. That it's my video driver. Is there a way to fix the driver without getting the laptop to get past the welcome screen. I doubt there is.. thank you guys.. anymore input is much appreciated

1. Refresh the screen: Right-click on the desktop and select [refresh]
The icons will appear.

if not,
Boot to the Safe Mode screen and select "Start in Last Known Good Setting"

I assumed tha this blank screen if not black ....and it is instead blue ...and the actually windows came on ...but do not run the windows explorer at the start up ...this can be fixed by reinstalling from the disk ...better not reinstalling but repair ..but during the boot from disc...after loading initial files and accept the license by pressing F8 ...just choose repair when it sees the previous operation system ..
the other way ..it sto run MSconfig from the start ..or from the task manager ..if the task bar do not appear on the screen ...
the task manager will activate by pressing ctrl/alt/del ...than after the window appear choose new task .... file ) and there on run gave the command run MSconfig ...this will bring a window where you have boot ini..... several diagnostic ...and START UP configuration ...go to this one ...and look in the list for windows explorer .....this needs to be enabled in order to show the stuff on the screen ...
Anyway ..this is a little more complicated ..and there is the possibility that this explorer program to be corrupted...so ..the first choice is the one for you ...just get a boot-able cd ...( operation system you use) insert it ...and reboot and press F8 to choose the boot device ... go for cd /dvd boot ...and press enter ...it wil start over ...and prompt you to press any key to boot from cd ....Do it ...and the system will start windows setup....choose repair when it prompt you for repair .or install new os...

ok ...now I see...so ..even if its in blak screen mode on safe ....try to go to the control panel ...and resore it to an earlier stage ...
assuming that you have nothing to link on the page ...not even the task bar ..press ctrl/alt/del...for the task manager ..run new task ...and type system ...this will open a system window that you can roll back until you get into the desktop to use properties on my computer ...or just co to control panel...get it on category view from teh side task ..than clik on maintanance and you wil have the option for restore ( system ) in the task on the left ...just run it ..pick an earlier stage ...and try to roll back the system ...
if this is not working try the repair from disk boot ...cause there is nothing else to do ..

indeed do that ..if there takes no action on task run ...there is something wrong with the system files and is nothing with the video card ...so ...reinstall and do it clean ...its better to format C partition if you do not have important files on my doc or desktop ...if you do ...first try to repair..the system ...and after that move files to D ...and install a clean one with C partition formating ...this will erase all bugs or errors that might cause this in the first place ....
Have a nice day ..and thanks for rating !

Hi,

The fact that it shows the Windows logo and then goes black is a good indication that the problem is corrupt graphic/video drivers.

Boot the machine into safe mode and click on your account, you will see a message about system restore. You don't want to use system restore so click on yes to work in safe mode.

Right click on My Computer/Computer and click on manage from the list. Then select Device Manager.

When device manager loads look in the list for display adapters and click on the + or > next to to it to expand the list. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and it should load up the operating system in normal mode and reinstall the drivers for the display automatically.

If you still get the same result boot into safe mode again and this time use System Restore.

Good luck and if you need anymore help please post back.

    Hi,

Boot the machine into safe mode. If there are no desktop icons there press and hold Ctrl, Alt and the hit the Del key. Task manager should appear or a new screen will pop up (with vista) saying start task manger so click on it.

When task manager pops up click on file which will be on the top left and click on that. Where it says new task (run) click on that and type explorer and click on OK. Hopefully the desktop icons will return and you can navigate to device manager as in my previous post.

If no icons appear then start task manger again and this time type devmgmt.msc that will open device manager. there you can uninstall the graphics drivers and restart the computer.

If you still have no luck post back.

    Good luck

Gateway mx6450 audio driver

You need to goto the manufacturers website, find their support section and there should be a list of drivers for your specific machine. Installing these should resolve your problem. It will be labelled Audio driver or Sound driver.
Hope this helps,

Laptop will not power up.

  • If possible, make sure there is power coming from the power adaptor with a voltmeter. If nothing shows, the adaptor needs replacing or repairing.
  • Try removing the battery and running on the power adaptor alone. If this works the battery is dead. You can buy a new battery or just run it on the adaptor.

My gateway mx6450 powers on but on blank screen, the lights indicate its running POST and stops.no sound.

Is it possible to connect the laptop to a pc monitor to see if there is any output, if not I'm afraid it would be a serious hardware issue.

When I turn on my Gateway MX6450 the gateway logo will display then you see the windows logo then the screen goes blank. I need to recover the saved data if I can.

You could remove the hard drive and pickup an adapter online or from a computer retailer that will allow you to connect a 2.5" drive to a standard ide connector found in most "tower" computers. If this is a "SATA" drive it will not need this and can be connected as a 2nd drive with no problems.

If display issue: connect an external monitor to see if any change.

Could be spyware - boot in Safe Mode (F8) - download, install and run SpyBot (spybot.com).

Good luck.

Monitor not working

Hello Chrispa22, Rest assured, it isn't a fried motherboard. If it had been you woun't see anything on the screen. It's as simple as this. Your problem is related with the windows instalation you currently have. Try to boot the windows in safemode to see if the problem still manifests. If you have 2 partitions on the hard disk move all important data to the one not containing the windows files. The cleanest way to fix this would be to reinstall windows. Format the C: partition to make yourself a clean install. After the install everything should be fine. If you need more assistance please reply back or contact me on the live assistance.
