Sept 30,08 bought dc14 all flloor. After 3 to 4 uses it started making lots of noise when on carpet setting. I examined the roller brush and it was cracked at one end. I returned it Oct 13 ,08 and got another dc 14 all floor. Now this one after 2 uses has the same problem only a larger crack in the brush and a small piece of the brush broke off. Very dissapointed.

Hi.

Sorry I need a bit more information.

Is the noise mechanical EG Clicking, rapid loud banging sound, screeching, hissing ?
Is the noise electrical noise from motor EG popping, buzzing, does motor pick up speed then slow down?
Is there a smell EG electrical burning, rubber burning. ?

If you lay machine on its side pull handle back & switch on does brush spin ?

If machine in parked full upright position is noise still present ?

Please answer all these questions & add more if you want to it will help me to help you.

You have something that's been sucked up into the floor cleaning part of the machine... then clogged it off. Be persistent and you should be able to find it and get it out..

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards
Darran

I have a 4 year old pink dyson that I've loved until recently. It's always been easy to unclog when it wasen't picking up-now it seems maybe a seal problem has occured. The suction is making a funny noise...

Thanks for your response.First: (This is most likely as you say the suction is making a funny noise.) The DC07 has a short length of clear plastic hose on the underside of the machine. Check this very carefully for splits (pull it off from the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush-roll end). Even the smallest split can cause serious loss of suction. If you find a split it's best, and inexpensive, to replace the hose rather than try to repair it. Next: (Less likely.) Most, but not all, models of the DC07 have a "brush control system" operated by a knob on the right side of the base. This knob has two positions: "bare floors" (or "off") and "carpet" (or "auto"). The roller will turn only when the knob is on "carpet", and even then only when the handle is tilted back (with the base still flat on the floor). Dust pick-up will bee poor if the brush-roll has stopped working. The problem is that this system uses two belts, only one of which is easy to see. If you're sure that the control knob is in the correct position, but the roller doesn't turn when the machine is on and the handle is lowered, then most likely one of the belts is broken (one belt goes from the motor to the clutch mechanism behind the control knob, the other from the clutch to the brush-roll). It's also possible that the clutch itself has failed.
Belt/clutch replacement on this model is not for the faint-hearted! To see what's involved, you can go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC07 clutch replacement". At least you will see how to remove the clutch cover so you can check on the other belt and confirm if this is the problem or not. Then you have to decide who is to do the job!
But, with any luck, you will find that it's that little plastic hose that's the problem anyway... and don't listen to the Oreck salesman!
I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

My vacuum made a funny noise, the red light was on and so I turned it off. There are small sparks now when turned on

Sorry. It sounds like the suction motor is bad. The best thing to do is take it to a reputable vac shop.
