I have a wrt54g v8 router. Too slow, need to upgrade firmware. Can't do it right now, but want instructions. Is there a pdf (or other) file that you can email to me for future reference? I want to make sure I don't screw up my current router settings--wouldn't know how to get them back. This really isn't my thing. Somehow when I was googling the other day I found instructions for doing this that included how to make sure settings were saved. I can find instructions on the linksys website but they aren't as specific as what I found at first.
To make matters worse, my printer just died. Bought a new one but not hooked up yet. I want to send the instructions to my office email address so I can print them there. Not my day.
The firmware will not speed up the router.
If you do upgrade firmware you will have to redo setting as they will be set back to factory after the upgrade.
If you need more speed first make sure its not your computer, or internet connection that is slow.
Think about getting a newer faster router....that one you have there is pretty outdated.

is it a wireless computer or the wired computer?
I believe the main computer is online.
Check the settings on the router.
You will need to open the router set up page.
here you will see the settings of the router.
If you are trying to connect to the wireless
network then make sure that you are typing the

Access the setup page of router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
By default, leave the username blank and the password is admin.
Once on the setup page, go to Wireless. Under Basic Wireless settings, change the default SSID Linksys into any name. This will allow you to easily determine which is your wireless network.
Then go to Wireless Security and enable WEP. Type a passphase and click the generate button. Take note of the Network key. Remember that you will use this network key to all wireless computers.
On your wireless computer, view the available wireless networks or site survey. Select your SSID and enter the network key to connect.
I hope this helps!
