Computer Buying Tips

Tips in buying computers

1. What should I buy? Branded or non branded computer.
Branded computers are known as quality products. They are manufactured under certain standards and quality control methods. But the disadvantage is the high price. In the other hand non branded PCs are low in price but cannot guarantee the quality. Whether if you buy branded or non branded following details will be help you to make a decision easily.

2. Warranty

I consider this as the most important of all computer buying tips. Every new computer should carry minimum 1 year warranty for parts and labor. Please check the warranty period and conditions carefully before purchasing a computer. Some suppliers provide additional years of warranty with an additional charge. My personal advise is to go for this extended warranty. Its worth.

3. Supplier

Always buy from a reputed supplier. Don't buy from small shops just to save few dollars. Most of small computer shops are using cheap quality parts. Also you will be in trouble in getting warranty if they close down shops within one year.

4. Software license

You may get operating system and few additional software packages free with your computer. Please check whether they are licensed copies and you should get all documents related to license.

5. System configuration

Think what kind of work you are going to do with your computer. Most of the users are purchasing computers to browse Internet. Then an average PC with 256MB memory, Pentium IV CPU, 64MG graphic card, 20GB Hard drive will be enough. But if you are going to use powerful games etc then go for 1 GB memory, 128MB or more VGA, 88GB + HDD

6. Internet / Networking

How are you connecting to the Internet? If you're using a high speed Internet connection, such as cable broadband or DSL, you'll want to make sure you have a network card built into your system. If you have a wireless network at home or at the office, save money and installation time by buying the wireless card built right into the computer.

7. Monitor

Monitors have different sizes and types such as 17", 21", flat screen etc. Don't go for 21" screen unless you are a graphic designer or CAD operator. The price difference between 17" to 21" is very high. Flat (slim) monitors are easy to use and looks good. Don’t throw away your monitor if it's still working properly. Instead, keep it and save a chunk of money by just replacing your old CPU [computer tower]. Monitors last much longer than CPUs and the technology is usually compatible between your old monitor and the new CPU. However, if you’re dissatisfied, then monitors, keyboards and mouse are the three tools to spend extra money on, since you use them every day!

8. Operating System

Always ask for the latest Operating System

My computer will not connect to the internet when I hook up to the Linksys wrt150n I don,t understand It because it use to work this is about to drive up the wall I have tried resetting the router but it...

If you can connect to the Internet using the LAN cable then your Internet connection is OK.
If you are trying to connect to the Internet using the wireless connection, then your problem is the wireless settings in either the Linksys or the wireless card in your computer.
First check the wireless settings in the Linksys, ie. the SSID and encryption key.
Second check the wireless settings in the computer's wireless card, this must match the route's wireless settings. If it matched then do a Repair connection. this will get the Linksys to issue a new IP address to the wireless card.computer.
If the Linksys wireless settings were changed then configure the wireless card in the computer with these new settings.

Generally all laptops with wireless built in have a shutoff button for the wifi connection. While you need the internet turn the wifi off. When you need to print, turn the wifi on, print then turn it off. It is not the best solution, but it should be a short term work-around. The other option is to attach the printer to your laptop with a cable (usb or otherwise). Turn the wifi off. Add more info to your request if this does not solve your problem,

If it solves the problem, leave feedback please.

1) Make sure it has a Wireless Card

2) Make sure You connect to a wireless access point before you get online.

You can try using firefox, if the PC is saying your getting a connection, if it works, try turning off proxy in your internet settings.

Can't connect to internet if it is not synced to computer....help please

This unit works on WiFi so will only connect to the internet when in close range to a wireless router. Make sure your wireless card is connected properly and is actually sending out a signal. Go to "control pannel" then "network connections" and see if the connection is good. You can reconfigure your wireless network by going to "control panel" then "wireless network setup wizard" Good luck!

I cant play online without the modem being by my ps3?

Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).

If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.

Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.

I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the only thing I like better about the PS3 is the free online game play and Blue-Ray. Other than that, they're even. Good luck and have fun online! If you find me (wraith0127) say hi! Don't forget to rate. Thank you!

Net Gear Range Max Dual Band Wireless Router

If you really wanna use the so called wireless "N" technology you need to have a wireless N card for your pc so the wireless N technology will be working on your network since you're saying that you already have a wireless N router, because you will just only use a longer antenna your wireless pc will still be running on wireless G technology.

Unable to connect to internet wirelessly, but i can use cable to connect then, it says the internet connect is linksys internet

Do you have a wireless card? Is it installed? linksys usually doesnt have many problems. Depending on what computer you have you might need to flick a switch or press a button somewhere to turn on your wireless nic. If you do have a wireless card look for some drivers online. I cant tell you too much without knowing what computer you have or how you have your router set up.
