When I press F2 to enter setup I am prompted to enter a password, but I forgot it. How can I remove it so I can go into setup?

Try removing the CMOS battery which might allow setup to be entered without a password.

Try googling instructions to reset the bios. I remember seeing some videos about this on Youtube.

Tobisha laptop T1355D -S1320 forgot bios password

If you cannot get external software to resolve this issue, then about the only thing you can do is open up unit after disconnecting all power and battery, remove the cmos battery and put the cmos clear jumper on that position for about ten seconds. That will restore the cmos to default condition without the password you forgot.

Password hack

While removing the onboard battery and disconnecting all power for 5 minutes may clear the bios, some passwords are written into NvRam (non volitile Ram). This may require you to move some jumpers. Try this.
It may be necessary, on occasion, to clear the CMOS settings. When the CMOS is cleared, all information stored in the CMOS is replaced by default data, which means that all of the configuration information, such as hard drive types and I/O port setup, is cleared, including the password. Use the following procedure to clear CMOS:
  1. Power down the computer.
  2. Remove the left cover of the computer.
  3. Wearing an anti-static wristband grounded to the chassis, remove the jumper from pins 1 - 2 of the Clear CMOS jumper block (JP15) and install it on pins 2 - 3.
  4. Remove the jumper from pins 2 - 3 of the Clear CMOS jumper block (JP15) and install it on pins 1 - 2. (NOTE: Some earlier systems will power up as soon as the jumper is removed from pins 1-2. Later versions of the BIOS change this, 6.00.10 or later.)
  5. Reinstall the cover and power up the computer.
  6. Run the BIOS Setup program to reconfigure the system.

I forgot my password and need help to get it back

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcom Screen Login Password?

Which Operating System?

If it's the BIOS Password you will have to take the laptop apart to get to the CMOS Battery and remove it.

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

If you have the basic knowledge of computer engineering, then follow the following steps

1. Remove the BATTERY before starting
2. Unscrew all the screws of the laptop (with care and concentration)
3. Look for the CMOS battery (a flat silver coloured battery),
4. Detach it from the board
5. Wait for 1 mins before attaching the CMOS battery.
6. Couple the Laptop back (with care)

Forgot my password. Can I do something with the cmos to reset & not lose all the software that has been installed? It's a Dell Inspiron 700.

Disconnect the battery, unplug it, then open it up. There should be a small round battery called the CMOS battery somewhere in there. Pull that out. Then plug your computer in and boot it up without the CMOS battery. It should say password disabled. Turn it off, disconnect it, put it back together, and you're good to go. This only works if its the bios password that you forgot.

Boot

Since you forgot the password best thing to do is make the cmos forget it. The way to do this is remove the cmos battery. Take it out for several hours then put it back in. This will reset the cmos and you should gain access.
