Re: No info is showing on screen only reads ''GARMIN''....
I recommend upgrading your system software to the latest version. Overwriting this firmware can restore full functionality to troublesome Garmin Nuvi 885T units.

Do a hard reset on your GPS. Download and install Garmin Express from Garmin. Plug your GPS into your computer. The software will identify your GPS and allow you to download new maps to it.
check the map info screen. usually its settings, map, map info or tools setings map info or settings, my maps. if there is nothing there then get Garmin Express and get your maps back. otherwise you installed a region other than where you live.
Time for an update. Go to Garmin.com and get it done. If you haven't done this for a while you might get a new OS too. The older models use a lot of the memory for the updates and might need to download a smaller range map.
The map may have become unselected. Press TOOLS, the spanner symbol on the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP Press SETTINGS or LOCALE on some models Press MAPS and then at the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO Your map name should be displayed. THere should be a tick beside it. If there's no tick press the map name and it will tick. The map is now selected and should work ok.
GO INTO SETTINGS
THEN MAPS
THEN MAP INFO ,
MAKE SURE THE "TICK" IS IN THE BOX OF THE MAPS YOU WANT TO USE
IF THAT FAIL'S THE THE DOWNLOAD DID NOT TAKE, IF SHOWING COMPUTOR ON SCREEN STILL, THEN RESET, EITHER THE RESET BUTTON ON THE BASE, (PUSH) OR HOLD/PRESS BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF SCREEN WHEN POWERING ON AND WAIT, THEN RELEASE PRESSURE TO HARD RESET
it sound like someone has "unticked" maps go to settings then maps and map info and look for the screen that says city navigator, and tick box that should work unless someone has attached to pc and wiped maps
Have you checked the wrench menu, map info, the preinstalled map should have a check mark, if not tap on the check box, it should now show a detailed map screen when you go back to the main menu and select show map.
Did you tried to update your Maps? There are two maps inside your Garmin. Basemap which covers all highways and major roads and mapsource source which cover regular streets. Try reloading mapsource maps.
From the "Where to" menu select the little wrench and then select map and then select Map info. What does it say for Map Info?
If the unit is still under warranty, call Garmin and get a RMA. Return the unit to Garmin.
