Doesn't charge and overheats after a 1/2 hour

I've read that this is a common problem with this model. Is there a recommended fix for these 2 issues?

A technician opened up the case and didn't find any dust.

See the jack/socket of the adaptor, and battery terminal, for the rusted. if you got overheats see the cooling fan, what its work?

hopefully this helps.

Gateway power chager doesn't work. Bought a new one but only works when i hold the charge onto the computer very tightly. can i fix this myself or do I have to send it to a professional?

This is a common problem in many laptops. I do not recommend you try this repair your self unless you have a great deal of experience in circuit board soldering. Most local shops are able to do the repair in a few hours since it usually only requires re-soldering the connection points for the contacts for that plug. When you are pressing in on the plug you are making contact in the bad connections. The issue that may come up however is if the connection that is the problem is between one of the layers of the board and the solder can't reach it.

look close to the screen and see if there is a faint picture. if there is then read below for the issues and solutions that can cause this problem.

Issue 1: Lid button sticking

this is a common issue with this model that the lid button sticks closed. fiddle with it to see if it opens and the light comes on.

issue 2: Inverter for the monitor is bad

this is not to uncommon an issue when this problems shows itself. Laptops monitors light up with a fluorescent bulb. This is powered by an inverter. These can go bad and if they do the light will not turn on. you need to take this to a service station. i don't recommend trying to replace without knowledge of this. They are high powered and you can hurt yourself or damage the screen

issue 3: fluorescent bulb went bad

this is usually the least common but could have happened. usually happens when peopel spray their screen with cleaner and it drips down inside the bottom. This can be fixed by a service center but coudl get costly. best bet is buy a new screen.

That is a known issue with that model of computer. The battery is not very good. I recommend taking it to a certified repair technician for an expanded battery.
My cousin has one and using windows 7 he gets about 20 to 30 minutes of battery life on average.

My laptop isn't charging. I think the chargin port is lose. Is this a common problem? ANy fixes?

There are 2 common problems that end up with this.

1. Battery goes bad
2. Were ac plugs into unit becomes loose/damaged

There is no easy way to fix the connector is must be replaced by a laptop specialist and can get expensive. There are 4-6 connections holding the part to the motherboard and your looking at about 1/2 hour to 1 to just take the unit apart. Part general costs 12-30 bucks based on make and model. We have seen many of these come into our shop.

Thanks, Frank Z.

Battery charging problem

Hi Deena,

Am afraid the battery needs to be replaced.

Am assuming that you are using the original charger of the Toshiba. If yes, a few things you can still try (and it may or it may not work):
1. Remove the battery and clean the contacts both on the battery and the ones inside the battery compartment of the laptop. You can use cotton buds and alcohol. It may be necessary to scrape off any grime, dirt or foreign particles adhering to the contacts. Additionally you may need to gently bend the contact pins of the laptop to provide more pressure to the battery contacts/terminals.

2. With the laptop off, charge the battery continuously for 16 hours or overnight.

If problem persist, guess you're back to the replacement option.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
