Dreamcast won't recognize controller????

I've had the dreamcast for quite a few years now, It worked excellent when I had purchased it and some years after, but now after having an Xbox plugged into the tv I tried playing the dreamcast (unplugged everything related to the Xbox), it goes to the set date/time screen, I try and set it but it won't let me. Any help?

Same problem mate. I read the manual and it said to charge up the battery by leaving the console on for at least 2 hours. I left it on for at least 4 but no result. Maybe the battery needs replacing but that prob requires some uncrewing of some panels. I had the same prob with my saturn (if you had one) and that just required a new lithium battery, job done. Who knows ay? I just want to go back to spending endless hours trying to level up my character on PSO, ah good old days.

This is probably the most ridiculous thread I've ever read in regards to the most common fault of the Sega Dreamcast. The issue is not with the laser - if it was unable to read the disc, it wouldn't read the disc.
The issue is actually with the pins that connect to the motherboard. They corrode and burn out over time. This can be fixed by cleaning with a high percentage alcohol.
Make sure you have unplugged and turned off the console for a couple of hours beforehand.
And before you open it up, press the on button to check for any remaining power.

I was playing with my Dreamcast and one day it would not recognize the controller.i turned it off and i tried it again. The same thing happend.Do i have to open the controller and clean it?

The pins on the controller connector might need to be cleaned or the cable might have short-circuited. Try using another controller to make sure it is the controller and not the system itself.

My control wont work

did you tested another dreamcast control...you had the same problem...so you have to check the protection Fusistor inside your dreamcast conector controller board....it seems like a blue or green normal resistor...marked as F1 on the board..change it with a simple fuse or an smd fusistor...Good Luck!

i have had the same problem once and i fixed it by changing the whole controllers part, if you take it apart you will see the controllers compartemnt related to the motherboard via a flex cable its so easy to replace!

Your Dreamcast sounds like it's overheating.

I had the same thing, and the cooling fan was worn out and needed to be replaced. I did this, and now it works like a charm.

Freezing problem with Games

The Dreamcast is no longer supported because it was to easy to copy the games, but there are still a loyal few who keep the scene alive. I have no idea how much you want to put into fixing the problem, but the only way to fix your problem is flashing the Dreamcast BIOS.

The Dreamcast is basically a computer; with the right programming you can do anything; and having a Dreamcast Keyboard is nice.

Sega Dreamcast console problem

First off, NEVER store a game console on top of a subwoofer. It is like a giant magnet, and electronic devices do not handle magnetics. I don't think i've ever heard of a VGA box, Sega brand or not, killing a console. Millions use aftermarket AV cables and adaptors on all consoles without problem. I think it likely died from being on top of the sub. Relocate it and you should be fine. Running it for a few hours isnt likely either unless you had the vents entirely blocked.
To the guest who's drive isnt spinning, I would say your drive motor has burnt out. This doesn't indicate a defect in Dreamcasts, per se, it just means bad luck or excessive dust which killed it. Either buy a different Dreamcast or see if you can find a drive replacement.
Hope this helps.

Date screen

If you unplug you Dreamcast for extended periods of time the battery in your Dreamcast that saves that info will die (its suppose to last a month but over time they will wear out and not last at all). After 1 hour of gameplay (assuming the battery is still working, as Li's wear out) the battery will be fully charged and last a month.
