Yes. Formatting a cart re-writes the file allocation table to which all data is written.

Everytime I put the SD Memory card and I try to take a picture or video it says card protect and won't let me do anything. What should I do?

i had this same problem... take your SD memory card to a computer, and format it then it should work.

Once loaded into a computer: 1) locate drive under My computer that should say SD or removable disk 2) right-click and then click the format tab 3) one the window is open format the SD card . . . it will erase everything on the card but it should solve your issue.

I want to format my SD ?

If you want to format your SD card then open up "My Computer" - right click on the SD card, choose "Format", then check the settings that come up (name, FAT or NTFS etc) and choose ok.
Remember this erases everything on the card so be sure you are ready for this!

I have a dc ST-201-VP model and cannot format the camera and have not been successful formatting the sd on the pc.c.p

If you cannot format the SD card on your computer, look at that first. I have actually had an SD card that didn't work before. As they look so simple I found it odd, yet it did happen.
Look at that first.
Remember that when you format a memory card or anything you are essentially erasing everything on it!

Virus on sd card

If your pc tells you the sd card is infected it means you have an AntiVirus running. You can use it to remove the virus by SCANNING the card.

You can also get rid of the virus by FORMATTING the card using the camera. The Format option (NOT EARASE) is usualy found in the settings menu. But beware, you will lose all the pictures as well.

Card Error

please check the following: Always choose reliable quality SD Cards. Toshiba Digital Cameras are tested for maximum performance with Toshiba SD Cards, Delkin SD Cards and Panasonic SD Cards. These are leading brands in the development of standard SD technology. Performance by other brands of SD cards may vary. Check the LOCK switch on the SD Card. The camera can not save images to an SD Card when it is in the lock protected position. If the SD Card is NEW, it may be necessary to FORMAT the card. This only applies to NEW SD Cards. If you format a card with images, all images will be erased. You can FORMAT your card periodically to maximize capacity and erase 'unseen' files, please be sure to download all images before choosing FORMAT as all images will be erased. Your Toshiba Digital Camera is designed for use with SD Cards. MultiMedia Cards are similar in size and shape to SD Cards, although with close inspection you will find that SD Cards have a different 'PIN" connection configuration, are slightly thicker in size, and have a manual slide LOCK switch on the side. Toshiba Digital Cameras are not designed or guaranteed to accept MultiMedia Cards. Please be sure to look for SD Cards from Toshiba, Panasonic and Delkin, the leaders in SD Card Technology.
