Re: rca pearl

You really don't need the software-you can use Windows Media Player-or just drag and drop.

Rca pearl th1602-a I turn it on all I get is the pearl emblem and it wont turn off. I have to pull the battery to stop.

My solution to a Pearl TH1602-A stuck on the pearl screen:

Download the firmware upgrade from RCA's website, run it.
Remove battery from Pearl, keep out.
Press PLAY and hold while plugging into USB port,
when "initializing" progress bar moves, let go off play button.

On my windows, it installed some software and asked me to reboot. After the reboot I re-ran the Pearl firmware file and about 30 seconds later the start button was now available.

Click it. However, You will loose your music on the internal storage.

RCA Easy Rip Uninstall will not... uninstall

I agree that RCA Easy Rip adds just about zero value; although i use my pearly everyday, I always access it via windows explorer as a removable drive.

I removed that program from the Pearl so it would stop asking if I wanted to install easyrip.

My suggestion for you is to run the installation software for easyrip again. I think this will help for one of two reasons:

  1. Being unable to uninstall from control panel is unusual and suggests an incomplete or corrupted installation. Reinstalling may fix the installation enough to use control panel's uninstall feature.
  2. Many software setup routines, upon finding the software already setup, will ask you if you want to remove it rather than install it a second time.

Hope that helps.

Rca lyra installtion prob

The only website that will have the Vista compatible software is the RCA website - I know the Pearl and other models are Vista-compat now, but I'm not 100% sure about the Lyra. Enter your model # into the RCA support site to find out.

First, make sure that your OS is compatible - if you have Vista, you must go to RCA's website and get a new version of the software.

If you have XP:
Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.

Wont install

The CD is not guaranteed to work with Vista, however there are some links on RCA's website to attempt to download updated programs that where present on the CD. Here is the link:

I am running Vista Enterprise and my Pearl works fine just by using the drag and drop features of Windows Explorer to place the .mp3 or .wma files on the device.

I would suggest using ITunes for music management software on Vista, as it is VERY sophisticated in comparison to most others in creating MP3 files from your CDs / CDs from your MP3 files. You don't need specific software to load songs onto (or sync with) your Pearl. Just Drag/Drop or copy/paste folders from outside of ITunes as though the Pearl is a simple flash drive (which it is). Yes, I am running Vista and Vista (32bit anyways) works fine with ITunes. Don't forget to set up the options in ITunes for creating the directories and naming/tagging the MP3 files - and also don't forget to stop your connection to your Pearl before yanking it out of the USB port (good way to damage things eventually). p.s. If you want to check out truly outstanding music management software, check out Amarok for the KDE Desktop (ala Kubuntu Linux)
