Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel 2002, starting motor was missing now just spins. Is it likely to be the dog gear on the starting motor or more seriously the flywheel teeth. This is not a solenoid issue as the starting motor always spins up. I should imagine an easy test would be to move the flywheel half a turn then try the stating motor as it is doubtful if the teeth of the flywheel would be stripped all the way round. if it fires up most like some damaged teeth on the flywheel, if it still spins most likely the stating motor. Mileage is getting towards 190,000 so it has done some starting. Let me know your thoughts if I am on the right line. Thanks

HI,your ford may have gear problem which is common on ford mondeo,first check the gear oil if its reddish then your oil is ok and if its burnt like brown colour then you should change the gear oil as well the gear oil filter.

The automatic gearbox on my mondeo 2002 changes gears but slips

In the engine compartment, you will need to locate the transmission dipstick. Usually on the left side of the motor, labeled "Trans fluid". Pull it out and check the fluid level. Your problem could be as simple as putting transmission fluid in it. That will make it slip. You fill the transmission right down the dipstick tube.

I had a starter motor fitted to my for mondeo TDCI 2002 because the engine just screeched and didn't turn over when trying to start. everything was fine until 2 months latter when the same problem started...

Probably want to pull starter out and check the gear on starter and if its chewed up then youll want to check the flywheel also. Good chance if the starter keeps getting chewed up then the flywheel is bad

Ford Mondeo ghia.When reaching around 30mph the car keeps clunking as though it is changing gear when not necessary also seems to rev its self up when this happens also The over drive light keeps flashing....

i think you have a fuel pressure problem on your fuel rail get them to do a fuel pressure check most ford dealers can not do this so find yourself reputable diesel specailist

I think you are on the right track. I would be inclined to suspect the starter and not the flywheel. The ring gear on the flywheel doesn't usually give any trouble unless it's been abused. Hope this helps.
