The most common failure on these sets was the high volatge splitter and then some cases the high voltage transformer. The part numbers will depend on your full model number. There is a label on the back with the full service number which will be your model number plus a few extra numbers such as D40W20BYX1 etc...

It could have a arcing Hv Block or a something arcing on the Deflection Board. If the crackling noise is louder in the rear of the set, the Deflection Board is probably the cause. You can usually confirm by removing the lower back cabinet and observing the board on the left side. If you see any arcing at all, the board needs replacing. You can call Encompass Elect. for ordering the board at 1800-638-3328.
I hope this helps,

This set is ready for the bone yard.. tube coolant leaked onto the neck of 1 of the tubes. most likely green.. the rca scenium series was famous for this happening.. it will cost you close to or more than a thousand bones to repair this relic. go to costco or sams club and get a good brand name lcd flat panel tv. it wont last as long but are cheaper to get fixed....

I had just turned on the tv and heard a pop and the screen was blank. When I turn it on, I hear a crackling sound but no tv

If it is a LCD projection, like WEGA, sounds like a bulb replacement time. Look in your owners manual.

Crackling and popping sounds in surround sound speakers

Could be your head unit or the connection to the speaker may be bad. Also if the wire to the speakers in your ceiling is bare and touching any ground it would interfere. Start by checking connections by playing something and messing with wires. Listen for a difference. Next check by putting the wires that power those speakers in a known working output and listen for different quality

Read replace lamp then afew weeks later heard pop noise and now black screen

Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.

If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.
