To clean the commutator, or armature as it is usually called, simply rub it with a piece of emery paper, or sandpaper, turning it by hand to ensure you clean it properly..
You need to remove the motor to do this of course.

Zanussi turbodry wdt 1075 washing machine fills & drains but does not perform wash cycles or spin cycles drum does not rotate

Quite probably the motor brushes. Disconnect from mains. Tilt machine backwards as far as possible. On motor, disconnect wires to brushes. With a multimeter, check continuity between brush and any segment if the commutator. If open circuit, replacing the brushes should do the trick. Also visually examine the commutator for damage

Asko 10505 Washer will drain but will not spin. Initially that was the problem, but then in trying it out again the washer will fill with water, will drain but will not even wash now. Do you think it is...

You don't mention if the drum spins if you choose the spin program, if it doesn't it could be the brushes on the motor. This would be a cheaper option to try first rather than a board. sometimes you can clean the com or tap the brush carriers gently and get the motor to spin on an empty or small load.

If you're confident, with the power offer and machine isolated you can check the resistance across both the brushes and slowly rotate the motor as a test.
hope this helps

Washing machine isn't spinning and making a loud humming noise . Could it be the brushes need replacing ?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

If it is carrying out the wash cycle it still COULD be the brushes but it is difficult to say from a distance!
However it COULD be the control board not powering the motor on fast spin- a visual at the brushes and commutator should clarify.
Now, a word or two of advice from a retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the commutator, often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
It's your choice though ;-0)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Asko 10505 washer will not spin

Hi, 2 things to check for. Obstruction in the drain pump or faulty drain pump, brushes in the motor worn out. The easiest way to determine the pump issue is answer this question. Does it drain ? Next, turn the timer to the drain/spin cycle, obviously it should drain & spin and advance to "off". The next thing with these 10505 asko is to see if the drum rotates in both directions in the wash/agitate portion of the cycle. You can just select the short wash for this (I forget if it's #4 or #5) If not, it's worn brushes. However, you'll have to make sure the armature isn't damaged before simply installimg new brushes. We can cross that bridge when we get there. Let me know. Hope that helps, though those are just the most common problems there could be others. Good Luck

Want to replace motor brushes...any tips on this

I need to also, so please post what you learn. I found several examples for other WMs on YouTube (search brushes carbon washing machine) Note, I was able to get my Bosch Axxis WFL 2060 spin working again with the following quick carbon dust cleaning trick:
1) Unplug WM and tip up to a 45 degree angle and then safely stabilize so you can safely access motor from bottom. No need to take off back or disconnect motor.
2) Using a small tool like a 1/4 allen wrench or medium screwdriver start tapping repeatedly (for 2 mins) on the brush holders, and back metal clips that connect to the brushes, your just moving the dust around really.
3) Next using an alcohol damp cloth clean the motor commutator - on this motor it is easily exposed on one of the sides 90 degrees away from, and in line with brush holders. Hold cloth on commutator and turn motor, this will also make it clear if commutator is damaged. You cloth should be pretty dirt after 2-3 rotations.
Repeat 2 and 3 above a few more times cleaning up all the carbon dust off the commutator and around the brushes.
After that tip down and test again. A more thorough cleaning could be done by removing brushes and cleaning em - but this will buy you a few weeks/months of operation.

Asko 10505 not agitating or spinning

not a solution, I have had the same problem due to family members overloading the machine, in fact I have it now which is why I am on here. Previously I fixed it by cleaning the deposit left on the rotor caused by the brushes. It worked before but not this time maybe the brushes are now too worn. This is my second set of brushes I replaced a set after about 10 years of use. From memory there is not a huge difference between a completely new motor and a set of brushes so I may go that way now as the machins is around 15 years old

Leaking inlet valve on Asko 10505

Unfortunately, the only way to be 100% sure this won't happen again is to replace the inlet water valve. Especially if the problem is intermittent. You could live with it if you turn off your water taps when the machine is not in use.

brushes are on the motor at the opposite end to the pulley. job can be done with motor in situ, but you will find it easier to take motor out.
however, how do you know they need replacing as you obviously have not tested for continuity thro brushes to commutator?
