Could it be that green is high speed and amber is low speed? Or vice-versa?

One of the LED is orange instead of green

I also have the DGS-1008D 8-port switch and it connects fine at gigabit speeds between my 5 PC's - I would check the cabling again, as mine was plug and play. As soon as it was hooked up and switched on, I got the green light for the gigabit connection - my 100mb router (also D-Link) connects with an orange light, as it cannot achieve gigabit speed.

Hi there and thanx for the reply.
I have connected PC's with the gigabit cards to the point where the one machine connects at 1Gig. All machines connect at 1 Gig at that specific point. So it is either the cables itself or the connection in the jack itself problem

What are you trying to do with this? If you're trying to share an internet connection then this won't work.. you'll need a router instead. If you're trying to set up a home network however, all you should need to do is have your switch powered on and then start connecting devices. Afterwards you may have to change some network settings depending on your operating system.

DGS-3024 Gigabit-Ethernet Switch

Open a web browser an put the IP address of your switch in the addresse bar. Once in the web interface, open the Monitoring folder and then click the Port Utilization link. The switch is actually creating graphics of each port utilization.

Much more details are provided in the user manual:
http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DGS%2D3024
Click on the "Product Manual" link at the left.

Won't allow connection to router

Since each of these devices is rated for 1000Mb/s, everything should be compatible. Make sure the NIC driver is up-to-date on your computer....and use automatic settings for speed and duplex wherever you have the option of setting it. The only other thing I can think of is to try a "crossover" cable between the router and switch...although this function is usually handled automatically in most modern interfaces.
