In device manager, right click the drive and click uninstall. Then, scan for hardware changes and wait for the new hardware wizard to come up and follow its directions. It should find the driver automatically and install it. Did anything special happen (install any software, hardware, or anything else) in the couple of days before the cd-rom drive's error came up?
