From the RUN command type...
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe

This will un-install IE8 and take you back to IE7. BTW, you must do this before you run an XP repair proceedure using your original XP SP2 disk. Furthermore if your XP disk is a SP1a, you must also un-install IE7 and take it back to IE6 otherwise IE will not work after the restore.

I have an Acer Aspire One. Just got Comcast service. The Acer will connect to the wireless internet but I can't open internet explorer to browse the internet. I've done just about everything.

Hi wood_fami528,

If you cant open and run Internet Explorer it might be corrupted. There are some ways on how to diagnose if the Internet Explorer has been corrupted, try to use a different browser like Google chrome or Mozilla. Check if both browsers are working fine with your computer. If you can use other browser try to uninstall and reinstall the Internet Explorer. Here are the basic steps on how to reinstall it again.

1. Before you uninstall the program please make sure to download the latest Internet Explorer using a different browser.
--> you can download it here.

2. Uninstall the Internet Explorer by going to the control panel.
--> Click Start button, point to control panel, Add remove programs then click Internet Explorer then uninstall it.

3. After you uninstalled the Internet Explorer you may now restart the system.

4. Turn on the computer then install the latest Internet Explorer.

5. Restart again the computer and you should good by now.

-- if you're still experiencing the same issue, try to do a system restore.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I want to know my computer is not accepting ie8 and without it i can not chat tell me how to install something which is goood in chat like the previous 1

Hi !

There are some reasons why internet explorer 8 installer does not install.

1. I believe the one you are installing is corrupted, just download new IE8 installer and try to install it.
2. You have installed other internet explorer that might conflict with the IE8 software, just uninstall the previous internet explorer.
3. You computer anti virus firewall is activated, you need to disable it before installing IE8.
4. You operating system is corrupted, somehow missing files and needs to repair your operating system. Don't worry, repairing your operating system would not delete your all software installed, document files and harwares drivers. This only if you are using Windows XP. Here is the link http://www.fixya.com/support/t7675013-problem_in.

I hope this is helpful. Good Luck

Hi josephc_agni,

You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:

  4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove.

NOTE: If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative step given below.
  5. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
ALTERNATIVE STEP:

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Carefully select and then copy the following command: %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
  4. Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
