Problem for Toshiba HD-A30 HD-DVD Player

Toshiba A30 freezes on A30 screen

I just recently bought a this player and it freezes on the welcome screen when you turn it on. I have downloaded the firmware update and the only way it seems to solve this problem is to unplug it everytime. Can anyone help?

- I have the same problem -- my HD-A3 locks at "welcome" on powerup. I called Toshiba -- they said a technician has to unlock it. If yours is still under warranty, they should do it for free. If not (as in my case), I'd recommend just buying a new one because it's cheaper than having Toshiba repair it.- DrPaulsen

- I have the same problem. No explanation, brand new - less than 30 days only played a few movies and now the "welcome" is displayed and the tray will not open. Powered down a couple of times and will not open, left on over night still "welcome". I plan on returning anyway within the 30 day policy, but would like to get my dvd out of the player at least.- PTiger

- I did not check my manual before having my Toshiba A3 get the update from the internet and download it. I had a disc in the unit when I began this process. I saw it loading 1/39, 2/39, etc. until it was done. After powering down and restarting the unit just sits there with "Welcome" on the display. It will not boot up and I cannot get the disc out of the unit. I have tried the 10 second power down then click open disc button but it just sits there.

Any ideas on what I can do?- jsoles
