Question about Sony VAIO PCV-W20 PC Desktop

Computer keeps shutting down

My daughter gave me her VAIO-W2O and I've only had it a month or so.

Anyway, the problem is that at any given moment it will shut off on its own. In other words I might be doing some stuff on it and it will suddenly click off as if I had shut it down manually. I then can't turn it back on unless I disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer and simply reconnect it or I take the plug out of the wall socket and simply plug it back in. In those cases I can switch it back on and it will stay on for a while until it does the same thing an hour or so later. I don't know if the following is a clue or not, but the computer only does this when I'm working on it and not when it's turned on but not in use.

I'm at a loss to figure out what's wrong. If the power cord or power unit is faulty then why does the computer turn right back if I disconnect and reconnect it? Anybody have any thoughts?

I have the same problem with my Sony VAIO PCV-W700G, only it does not stay on for any length of time it shuts down after only a couple minutes, I've reseated the memory, didn't change a thing, the unit is so compact it's hard to get to the internal parts, I would like to reseat the ATX plug but I haven't been able to get to it, I want to check the power supply but once again tight quarters, any help is greatly appreciated

If this happen when your working on to the computer it means that there some error on the programs you're working on(Please try uninstall the program that causes the errors and reinstall it again).
But if all application programs will do the same errors it means that system is failure.

sometimes errors on memory , and low voltage power supply.

try to clean memory, remove the memory and clean it with soft material.

If this not work;

maybe if your are sure that no hardware failure then operating system did error. If you don't mind i will suggest you to reinstall the windows so that all error will be fixed by it self.(note: you should backup important files)

Yeah your system is overheating, cheack the fan in the power supply to ensure it is working propperly.

If you have a case fan ensure it is working as well..

If your processor is overheating it can give the same problem

What you can do is take the side panel off the system and put a fan there..(house hold fan like the one you sue to blow cool air across the living room) face the fan in the system and see what happens..

Let me know if it sint working so we can try something else and if it is working then all you need to do is chang your power supply fan, change or add a case fan and change the fan on your processor heatsink

Many cameras when in certain modes you cannot turn the camera off. This is rare. Check the mode and camera settings. In many cases the button may have to be held for a moment before it shuts off.

If you still want to try, but it near a warm, not hot heat source. It may speed up the evaporating of the persisting liquid in the laptop.

May go for 6 months ok then does random reboots

I would suggest shutting down at least once a month for general maintenance such as dusting the fans off and cleaning the computer case.

If you are running for 6 months straight with out a single shut down that is negligence on your behalf to your computer & to the hardware inside. A lot of dust that accumulates may not seem like much to you but the amount that does accumulate will damage the hardware given enough time.

I hate to think of how much dust is accumulated inside it I like to give my PC a light cleaning each month. Generally a few quick hits with a compressed air canister is enough to keep the PC dust free.

Try on the BIOS/System Setup and check if its turning off there as well. To entere there, start your computer up, and when you see the Vaio logo press [Delete] several times. You will see a blue screen or black with information of your computer, leave it there for as long as it takes to shut down, if it doesn't then please let us know.
