Turning on Microphone Boost in Windows XP:

Not all sound cards support Microphone Boost. The simplest way to find out in Windows XP is to open the Windows Volume Control. If a speaker icon speakericon.gif is displayed at the lower right hand corner of the Windows Desktop double-click it. If no speaker icon is displayed then click the Windows Start button and select "Run..." In the Open box enter sndvol32.exe and click the OK button. This will open the Windows Volume Control. Select "Advanced Controls" from the Windows Volume Control's Options menu. You should see an "Advanced" button near the lower right hand corner of the Windows Volume Control screen. Click the Advanced button. If the "Advanced Controls for Microphone" screen shows a check box for "Microphone Boost" then check that box and click Close. Now try making a test recording and see if it works.
Now, If you do not find this option, I found an amazing video that might just do the trick. Click on the
link and view how to see the hidden "Mickey" :). Mic Boost.

We need re installation driver installer disk for mother board compaq serie ep sb 440 bx chipset

The computer has an Intel 440BX chipset on it. Chipset drivers are built into
Win ME or later, required from for Win 98 or NT. You'll also need
to identify the audio, network and video drivers and possibly obtain drivers for
them as well.

Try the HP web site for info about the drivers, many of which can be downloaded
there. HP did not trash the Compaq Deskpro driver downloads when it bought up
Compaq. HP and Carly have trashed up just about everything else tho in the last
3+ years..

Compaq c700 micro phone not working in win xp , please help me

If you have sound working fine it means your sound card driver is installed and OK, if the problem it's only microphone, maybe isn't selected at Windows audio mixed, has very low volume or simply is muted, double click on speaker icon (commonly at lower right corner of display close to system date & clock), in recording devices section.
