Attempted to scan and now printer does not work. I have a dell computer with vista

    Connections are ok, have reinstalled the printer and still continue to have the same problem

    Drivers have been deleted and reinstalled. When I attempt to print a test page, the paper starts to feed and then stops. Like it is waiting to receive the test page. The error message says no paper, but there is paper. Upon shutting off the printer the paper feeds on through the printer and nothing on the paper.

Thanks for using FixYa. As the printer is not printing after you tried scanning then you’ll need to uninstall and reinstall printer drivers for Dell Printer as over times these may got corrupted from the link---

Download of Printer Drivers for Dell Printer

Before reinstalling any printer drivers, it is necessary to remove any printer drivers that were previously installed. Not doing so can cause problems that prevent the computer from communicating with the printer.

To uninstall previous printer drivers:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of your Dell printer, click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Dell™ Printers and then point to the listing of your Dell printer and then click the Uninstall Dell Printer icon.
  3. When the Dell Printer Uninstall confirmation window appears, click Yes. This process may take several minutes to complete. Do not attempt to power off the computer at this time.
  4. When the Dell Printer Un installation window appears (Figure 1), click to select the Yes, I want to restart my computer right now (recommended) option, then click OK. (The system automatically shuts down and restarts.)

After the system restarts, the printer un installation process is complete.

Note: Do not reconnect the USB cable to the printer until after you have downloaded and reinstalled the printer's drivers.

Install the Drivers, Files, or Utilities

1. Locate the file. It is usually on the Desktop or in the My Documents folder.
2. Double-click the file icon and click Continue.
3. In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
4. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click yes to All. If a message appears asking to create a folder, click yes.
5. In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
6. Follow the prompts that appear to install the driver.
7. If prompted to restart your system, click OK.

    Oh, sorry. It was dell computer
    with Vista and not dell Printer. Please click Start
    then printers and faxes then 1500PSC and delete it. Use the uninstalling wizard.
    After deleting it and restarting the Dell PC this printer will not show there. Please
    uninstall/delete your printer and then having restarted your computer with the
    printer disconnected to reload the software completely from the CDs supplied
    with the HP Printer PSC 1500. During this procedure sometime you’ll be asked to
    connect the printer. If you don’t have the Printer CD, then you can download
    the drivers from the links---

    If this doesn't resolve the issue then try a reset, Follow
    the steps below to reset the All-in-One--

    1. Turn
      off the HP All-in-One by pressing the Power or On/Resume button.

    2. Unplug
      the power cord from the back of the HP All-in-One.

    3. Plug
      the power cord back into the HP All-in-One.

    4. Turn
      on the HP All-in-One by pressing the Power or On/Resume button.

    If the reset doesn't help then there is definetly a hardware
    issue with your printer, and you may need to visit HP Service center to get it

Check if the printer can still be detected in your control panel (control panel -> printers). Check when you point at it if it says "ready". If it is not, inspect the cables and try a different port on you computer. If it says ready and you still could not print, see if uninstalling it and reinstalling it works. If that does not solve it, have it tested on another computer. Should it still not work, your printer may have gone bad.

    Check the print queue on the lower right hand side of your screen and check if there are errors or go to the control panel and printers and check the status.

Well what operating system do you have on it? Windows7 doesnt like some printers. check online for print drivers and update them. Follow this link to help you with that...
you can also try this approach... First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Download and run this patch (***WARNING*** The patch for this printer also removes other Dell applications, like Dell Dock, Dell QuickSet and other Dell applications)(These applications can be downloaded at Drivers & Downloads and can be reinstalled) to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(A MUST on Vista Machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

Vista 64-bit drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.


Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Pl. check your internal system ip address, take the configuration sheet of the printer to know its address and use it and should not match with other.

to get that issue resolved try downloading the latest vista drivers for the printer from the dell website and this would resolve the issue

Cant scan via network?

You cannot use the paperport software to network scan. The paperport software is looking for a driver that is not installed. Network scanning for this printer is basically just file sharing. You initiate the scan at the printer itself. It scans the image and puts it on your computer. After it is there, you can use paperport to convert it to text if need be.

Dell 964 scanner

First do your scan on Dell 964 scanner &printer. Scan to clipborad. You hear it scan but nothing happens on your computer. Go to control panel - scanners and cameras - scan profiles - find the document you have scanned, select it and click edit - click preview - in the left corner you will see in blue "How to scan a picture" click that, it will lead you to Windows Photo Gallery - there click on file and import from scanner of camera - it will scan there and your scanned pics will be in your picture folder :) Took me a while to figure it out :)
You can avoid all this and go directly to Windows Photo Gallery :)

Are you getting any kind of pop ups when you try to scan?

What kinds of AntiVirus Software are you using.

What operating system are you using: ex. Vista; XP Home; XP professional?

what happens whenever you are trying to scan.... any error message or any error number?

try scanning from the printer to the computer using the scan to option on the front panel of the printer.

try scanning from hp solution center installed in your computer.

try scanning from mspaint. to do so, open paint and click on "file-->from scanners and camera".

how did you installed the driver. have you got the correct cd to install the printer in windows vista???

if not that may be the problem. the printer can print and copy well as you are having the drivers which will work in win vista. but for the scanning functionality you need to get the cd to install the printer in windows vista. you can download it online.

Updated to Windows Vista and now the Dell 922 AIO scanner won't work

For windows Vista; it is imperative to run the Vista patch which can be found on the Dell website (Downloads and drivers).
Make sure that you run the patch, after removing the printer USB cable from the computer. Restart the computer as the patch suggests and then install the Vista specific drivers, which also need to be downloaded from Dell Website.
Again, do not connect the printer unless the installation software asks you to.
For scanner issues, those who are unable to get anything scanned to their computer, and are able to print, it is essentialy a Firewall/Anti-virus issue. You can check that out by trying to scan using an application such as MSPaint (Start> type 'mspaint' > hit enter).

Dell A920 with Windows Vista

Believe it or not... the driver is buried on the Dell site for Vista 64-bit. I search and searched ... and there it was.

In any case, I downloaded it, installed it, and it works fine. All the buttons (scan/copy) on the top work as well as printing. Now if I could just get my old XP machines to print to it on the network. But.. I think that is another thread.
