Most of this can be taken apart with a screwdriver . The case is a little tricky. You will notice from the side...where the case is split, there are tabs on the inside that you need to press. I poked a small screwdriver through the vent holes to press them and get the box apart.
Your best bet is to get a new DVD drive. Here's how you should do it. First, open up your Xbox 360. (there are plenty of tutorials for this online, and I will be writing a Tip for it soon) Check your DVD drive's Model and F/W. F/W is the firmware model. It is the key that tells your motherboard it has the right drive. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONES! This fix may work if you have just the right Drive model, but you can never be too careful.
Okay now, you will need to carefully take apart your new DVD drive. (once again, tutorials online) once you do that, un-hook and remove the new DVD drive's motherboard and place it to the side.
Next, do the same to your old DVD drive.
Finally. Take the motherboard from your old DVD drive and place it in the NEW dvd drive. hook the motherboard up and put the NEW dvd drive back together. Place the new DVD drive in your Xbox 360, hook it up. Close your 360. Turn it on. Place a game in. And viola! As long as your NEW dvd drive wasn't faulty, Your Xbox should work perfectly!
Things to try before doing this: Wiping the dvd lens with a soft cloth. wiping the game with a soft cloth.
Things to do instead of this. Send your Xbox to Microsoft if you still have a warranty. Send it to a trusted Xbox Repair Service Center. I currently run DRAGONF1R3 REPAIRS. Contact me for more info. My e-mail is in my description.
Either you have something sticky spilled on your unit, or you may have to replace the motor for the disc tray. Also take note if the tray is even attempting to open at all. If so, it might just need to be cleaned.
Hi, it sounds like you have the" open tray" error that is very common with the 360s. How you fix this is you take your DVD drive apart and look at the laser assembly, there are 2 screws on the side of it, look at the one on the left. Turn this screw to the left a VERY little bit at a time and keep checking it every time you turn it until it stops the open tray error.
Mine had the same problem. On mine the spindle wasn't turning the game.
It kept trying to then quit and said "Open Tray". The warranty was out
so I took it apart opened the dvd drive and took apart the spindle. The
grease in the spindle was black, I guess from all the heat. Cleaned it
out and put some high temperature grease on spindle shaft and in the
hole. It now spins with ease. There are videos on youtube on how to
take apart the xbox and to take apart the dvd drive and spindle. Just
pay close attention at how tight the screws the hold the spindle down
are.I hope this helps
i think you have a dvd drive problem. Your gonna have to take your xbox apart, (there are videos on youtube on how to take a xbox apart). Then your gonna have to take the dvd drive apart, and there should be a magnet that is stuck to the top of the dvd drive.
