Question about Samsung SPN4235 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

I have a SPN4235 Plasma Samsung and I want to use a DVI-DVI cable from my ATI Radeon 3650 to the TV. It just sits at No signal no matter what i do, i have tried changing the cable while the PC was on, tried booting the PC with the TV hooked up, but nothing is working, even installed the latest video drivers. My video card only has 1xDVI, 1xHDMI, 1xFW. and i dont have a HDMI to DVI converter to hook up the TV and monitor. tv also does not have hdmi ports.

nope, no boot screen, i found it odd myself, this is the first time i have had this issue. I use a normal DVI to VGA adapter normally for my monitor since its an older lcd. so i know the port itself is working, and i know the cable is working also because when the cable is not connected to the tv it wont let me change to DVI and when i connect it it says connected and lets me change to that "channel".

im running windows 7 and I plug in the DVI cable for the TV into the computer it makes the noise as if something was plugged in

i have set the resolution to 800x600 and that is the lowest i can go, but it still didnt change anything.

  • kyle_laporte Nov 13, 2009

i managed to get it down to 640x480 with 16bit colours and still nothing when i plug in the TV to DVI. this is starting to annoy me real fast. it works with vga, so why not DVI?!

ok, so i managed to get the onboard video going with my vga lcd monitor and then plugged in the DVI to the TV. it detects the TV in windows and throught the catalyst control panel but it wont show up on the TV. i have tried changing all the settings for the TV and nothing!

When you are booting the PC with the TV connected you don't even see the normal BIOS boot screens on the TV? If not I wonder if the DVI connector on your PC is working ?

You may need to adjust the resolution first, keep it lowest possible to get the computer works first. Then, try to reboot computer to get signal in.

If i connect the DVI cable to my Video card (9200 family)and to my monitor an Asus VH222H i get a dialogue box saying no DVI signal. if i use the VGA cable everything works fine.Does this mean the card...

Make sure your monitor is set up to recieve what ever signal you are wanting via the monitor's menu. There should be an input button on the monitor to select the signal type. The connection really doesn't matter as long as you are able to use the monitor. There could be something wrong with the connector on the video card. Also make sure you are using the card and are not using the onboard graphics connection by mistake. If the problem persists it is more than likely the card.

Monitor screen shuts off and on while in DVI mode

First, try updating the ATI drivers. The DVI connection transfers information about screen state back and forth (it's a full two-way connection). If there's some bug in how the SyncMaster and ATI card do this communication (which sounds like the problem) then hopefully the newer drivers will fix it. Otherwise try it out on a RGB cable.

Can SPN4235 Support Blu Ray Signals?

After I got over my fustration I did a little more reading and discovered that I could use purchase a
HDMI to DVI converter cable. Since DVI, unlike HDMI, is video only I also had to purchase a digital optical (it also carries audio) cable to get sound. It cost me an additional $70 for the two cables but it was worth it. I reasonably happy with the 1080i resolution which is all my SPN4235 is capable of at least until I can afford a new 60" HD Plasma TV.

Viewsonic vp912b lcd display will not work.no DVI

Yes you can but there should be an option in the monitor settings for DVI... Maybe if you go into safe mode and attempt adjusting settings for the ati for the dvi output, from what I hear that monitor is nice with the DVI option would be aa shame to lose that.

Hi guys got a slight problem with my gfx card. I cant get the tv-out to work ive search all over for a solution but cant find one. its a ati radeon x1650 512mb it has vga, dvi and s-video out...

You need to use ati catylst control panel.

You can also download and use at tray tools.

There is a setting force tv detection. Sometimes this needs to be enabled to work properly. Also make sure3 that your desktop resolution is not too high for your television. I have a plasma tv so I can use 720 and 1080 p but my x1950 could only use a max of 1024x768 resolution.

Ati mobility radeon 9000 agp

hi camperd55,

I believe you have the right adapter cable. According to my knowledge the Radeon 9000 supports TV output via RCA (check http://ati.amd.com/products/MobilityRadeon9000/index.html:" Mobility™ Radeon™ 9000 provides the highest quality output support for DVI-I, TV and CRTs.")

Firstly, it would be a good idea to make sure your TV has the 3 RCA jacks into which you will insert the adapter cable's 3 RCA connectors according to the colors of the connectors and jacks.

Secondly, if your laptop has a VGA port, you're set to connect your laptop to your TV, no hustles. If your laptop doesn't have a VGA port, your going to have to get a DVI-VGA converter, so you're setup will be something like: [laptop]-[DVI-VGA converter]-[VGA-3RCA adapter cable]-[TV's 3RCA jacks].

When you get your laptop's screen displaying on your TV, its merely a matter of using your recording equipment to record the TV's image as you would any program showing on the TV.

I hope this will help you solve your problem, thank you for using the FixYa service.

Kind regards
Henru : )
