No cooling everything on air conditioner works except cooling . when it was cooling we would have water coming out of a drain on the outside which we tend to think is normal but with no cooling working no water is coming out now would the problem be the unit needs re - gassing.

I tried to run my air conditioner the other day, but the house started to smell like dust and dirt. If I pull the vent off and clean in there, how far back do I need to go to get all the dirt? I tri

Not all of your question was view-able, but sounds like your drain tube may be plugged if you are getting musty smells. Inspect the drain tube for clogging (lower right of unit). Pour a glass of water over the metal fins and watch to make sure it drains correctly down and out the tube. Look outside or at the far end where it drains and be sure water comes out. If not, try a bristle brush style pipe cleaner wire to insert and clean the opening. Once its draining well, you should use a mild bleach solution and spray bottle to hose down the entire inside heat exchanger. Never put anything into/between the metal fins except cleaning fluid. Using a brush on the fins will mostly just push the dust back and compact it so the water can't dislodge it. After a good cleaning, it will help to run just the fan or heat mode for a while so the vents dry before using cooling mode.

The furnace is running but there is no cool air. I change my filters every month and I flushed out the water lines last month.

flushing out water lines do you mean condensate line coming off the furnace that drain to the outside. is the condensing unit outside running when u have it in cooling mode. by condensing unit I mean the unit outside that has lines that run to the inside. does that turn on when u have it in cooling. the unit outside have two components that should turn on the outdoor condenser fan and a compressor.

My Kenmore window ac unit cools ok but makes a clicking/clacking sound while it runs. The cooling fan turns properly and it drains outside but has started to drain a little inside-it is angled to drain...

From everything you described, it sounds like more water than usual is collecting in the drip fan. Despite the unit draining out the rear drain hole. Check the drain hole to make sure it is totally clear and not partially clogged. A pipe cleaner works well to do this. Be sure to turn the unit OFF & unplug it, before working on it.

Hope this helped you and tanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a 6000 btu window unit. I was wanting to know how the unit drains the water. where does the water come out of the unit at? I could not find a drain hole.

No drain holes on most units that size

The water gets from the front evaporator thru
a small hole you can not see

Then it finds it's way to the outside or back on the
bottom metal pan

It is evaporated by the condensor fan

It may drain out over the rear pan lip, if
it gets alot, but no drain hole is necessary

You can angle the unit down at the outside or
rear & you can drill a small hole, but it uses the water
to cool the condenser

My through the wall whirlpool air conditioner has water sprinkling through where the cold air comes into the room is my air conditioner broken??

No... either the drain hole is plugged or the unit is tipped forward instead of backward...make sure that the unit outside the window is lower then the inside by just a bit... The drain holes are usually in the back outside corners and often they plug up with dirt or debris...

Yes, we have a fridgidaire FAC127S1A Model and we installed it today and are having trouble with it leaking water once it runs for a while. (The hole on the under side of the A/C.) Is this normal or is it...

If the water is leaking to the outside, that is normal. Especially if, the humidity is high outside.

If it's leaking to the inside. No, that's not normal and is due to improper installation. The rear of the unit should tilt down about 1/4" , to allow the water to drain outside via the drain pan hole.

To help you further, I have included a link to the Owner's Manual for your FAC127S1A model air conditioner. You can download and print it for future reference.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Poor cooling

cold air is made by refrigeration in the air conditioner. If the unit is low on the freon charge then you have a poor exchange and poor cooling. I have gotten the units to work better by putting a little water on the outside exchange coil. by bringing the temp down on the outside coil you get a better exchange and better cooling. I used a small copper tube with about 10 real small holes in it to drizzel just a little bit of water on the outside part of the machine. the fan cools off the outside coils off and gets a better exchange bringing down the temp of the air coming out of air conditioner

Water not draining out the back

Humidity is where the water comes from. If humidity is low, very little if any, water.

Water Leaking

Dear Customer,
The likely reasons for a leaking AC are...
1) Improperly installed.
A window air conditioner must be slightly lower at the rear than the front. This allows the water being removed from the room to drain to the back of the machine. A difference of one inch is sufficient. This is always the first thing to check. Many are improperly installed in the haste to get relief from the heat. If installed too low at front the water will flow into the room rather than outside. If installed too low at rear, water can roll out front edges before has chance to exit towards rear drain.

  1. Icing up.
Water being de-humidified can turn to ice if there are problems with the cooling system. There are many reasons for an air conditioner to produce ice. Remove front grille while machine is operating. If ice is present on the cooling coil you will probably need service. For more information see our other article: Why window Air Conditioners Ice up.

  1. Air leakage around air conditioner.
If warm air is able to enter around the air conditioner it will encounter cooler, dryer air. When they meet condensation will occur. If water leaking from front of air conditioner inspect to see if dripping from body of machine, or water droplets clinging to front area. To test, operate machine for 30 minutes and then use flashlight to check under front edge of base. Small water droplets here indicate an air leakage problem. Add foam insulation to stop warm air from infiltrating.

  1. Drain hole blocked.
Rear of air conditioner base has a drain hole or groove to allow water to escape. If becomes blocked water can back up. To test, operate machine for 30 minutes and then inspect if draining properly. If appears blocked use a small piece of wood to open drain hole at rear of metal base. CAUTION: Never be tempted to drill holes into the air conditioner body to relieve water pooling. Severe damage can result.

  1. Internal drains blocked.
There are small passageways that allow water to drain from front of air conditioner to the rear. If they become blocked water will pool at front of machine and overflow onto floor. If this happens the air conditioner will require removal from window and servicing.

  1. Outside temperature too cold.
This occurs at end of cooling season. If outside temperatures drops below 60 degrees Fahrenheit at night the cooling coil may ice up. If no leakage at bedtime but water in front of machine in morning, suspect this problem. If this problem suspected turn off machine before bedtime and restart as day warms. Alternately, operate machine at night with selector switch in ‘fan only’ position. This will circulate room air during night but not allow cooling.
Hope u find this useful. I'll be thankful if u could rate this. thank you.
