Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Running Winxp Sp3 and lately the system reboots without warning and comes back up with a fatel error. When I look at the minidump file, it always points to afwcore.sys file. It seems to happen in conjunction with Outlook 2003. The version of afwcore.sys is 1.0.403.9818 dated 3/23/09 and Outpost Firewall, Thanks

I do not have outpost firewall, that is the strange thing. I run CA Security Center.

  • Ferndale Nov 12, 2009

I did install BullGuard a week ago, but have since uninstalled it and the problem continues. BullGuard did install another version of afwcore.sys, but these have been removed.

I will try uninstalling CA and see what happens. I have a paid subscription and have had good results from the package.

The problem is with the outpost firewall, uninstall outpost firewall and see if the error messages are gone, if they are, I would recommend to use another firewall for example.

Zonealarm Firewall - free version www.zonealarm.com
Kerio - sunbelt personal firewall - trial / free version, in 30 days some of the extra features are turned off. www.sunbeltsoftware.com

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks,
Ekse

are you paying for CA Security Center? Try uninstalling it and if the problem is gone then cancel your subscription if you are paying for it, take one of the free ones, Zonealarm and Avast antivirus for example.

I install those to every computer that comes to me, and they do a wonderful job without any blue screens.

I get blue screens often when trying to install software. Solution suggests that BIOS should be updated but I have already done this to version 3.15

please clarify what the blue screen stop errors are if you have ANY usb devices plugged in that could be it. if you are trying to install via a usb dvd drive try installing it to a different usb. also go to start, run type msconfig and shut off anything under start up that is not needed then reboot. also try installing in safe mode. after bios boot hit f8. please let me know if this helps! contact me back with the stop error if it doesnt.

How to View Windows Minidump Files

First of all, you need to configure Windows to save these important log files. Most of the time, this is already done automatically, however follow these steps to make sure these log files are being saved.

1) Click on Start

2) Right-click on My Computer

3) Click on Properties

4) In Windows XP , click on the Advanced tab. In Windows Vista , click on the Advanced System Systems option on the left side of the screen.

5) Under Startup and Recovery, Click on the Setting button

6) Under the System Failure section, you'll see the options for the memory dump file. Write an event to the system log should be checked along with Send an Administrative Alert. The debugging information should be set to the Small Memory dump (64K) and generally the Small Dump Directory is set to %SystemRoot%\Minidump. In most cases this is the C:\Windows\Minidump directory.

As far as the third check box is concerned, if this is checked the computer will automatically restart when a blue screen error message is encountered. So, if your computer is booting into Windows, then rebooting automatically most likely you are getting some sort of blue screen error message and its forcing the computer to restart. If you uncheck this box, then the message itself will appear so you can retrieve important details about the error.

Download and Installing the Debugging Tools to Read Minidump Files

In order to view the Minidump files, you have to download the following tools.

Debugging Tools for Windows including WinDbg

Although most of the time its not necessary, you can download the Symbol packages as well as the Debugging Tools so you can read the Minidump logs easier. Once you've downloaded the Debugging Tools for the correct version of Windows and installed them, open the WinDbg program by following these steps.

1) Click on Start
2) Click on All Programs
3) Click on Debugging Tools for Windows group
4) Click on WinDbg to open

The screen should look similar to the one below.

Deciphering the Minidump Files

In the WinDbg program, click on File, then click on Open Crash Dump

Browse to the following directory on your hard drive and open a minidump log. The drive letter will be whichever drive you installed Windows on. In most cases, this is drive C.

C:\Windows\Minidump

After you open a minidump file in WinDbg, scroll to the bottom of the file. You should see a line that says Probably caused by:, followed by a filename. This is the problem file. In my case the file was related to the ELock Program in the Acer Empowering Technology set of tools. I simply uninstalled this program from the computer and the blue screen and problem went away.

Probably caused by : eLock2FSCTLDriver.sys ( eLock2FSCTLDriver+11332 )

Although you may not recognize the file that is causing the problem, it definitely helps in tracking down a solution for the blue screen error message and resolving the issues.

No audio

I would say that you should install WinXP SP3 (if you are using WinXP) or Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver from Microsoft and then restart computer, it should work. here is the link for UAA Driver ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe
And for WinXP SP3 http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/svpk/2008/04/windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu_c81472f7eeea2eca421e116cd4c03e2300ebfde4.exe
try one of the link, it should work.

Take care.

Deleted Vista Recovery Partition. Now XP installer can't read HDD

if you have created recovery disk before the deleting of the recovery partition u can format the drive from your bios and create a new recovery partition using the recovery disk if not if your pc has crashed and your recovery partition is gone u will have to get a new operating system software but if your pc is still stable just run the recovery manager and restore to factory settings and it will put recover partition back on your hard disk

During setting up computer with drivers etc. System file could have become faulty some files not registered in System
You could have System file errors these files are the heart of O/S
whereas the reg is the blood if System file are faulty things do not work properly.
Go to C:\ right click properties / Tools / error check new box popsup
tick little box to fix errors and reboot
On reboot windows will check disk for errors and fix them
If this does not help please email me at thoughts001au@yahoo.com.au
Give a details description of what happens

Computer will not start

When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 or 1003 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump. Check system event 1001 and 1003 and it has the content of the blue screen

Event ID: 1001
Source: Save Dump
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.The bugcheck was : 0xc000000a (0xe1270188, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804032100).
Microsoft Windows..... A dump was saved in: .......

Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Description:
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 0000000d, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000

Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001/1003. Copy the content and paste it back here
