I am assuming you are using onboard ( intergrated ) graphics , to access more modes you would have to add a graphics card , if you could repost your question with make/model and operating system we could give a better answer

if this helps please vote

Unsupported video configuration occurs when computer is turned on. then asks to attach monitor cable to add- in graphics card. everything usually necessary to plug into is done.

It is possible that the desktop resolution was set too high for the type of monitor you have. This can happen if adjusting screen size settings. If this is the case, you may see the Dell splash screen at boot up and then the screen will go black when trying to load Windows.

If that is the case, try this:
Boot up in Safe mode or VGA mode (Tap F8 a few times when the dell splash screen comes up.....this should open a menu allowing you to choose the different modes)

If you are able to boot up in safe or VGA mode, you should be able to go into the display settings in the control panel and change the resolution. Find out what the native resolution of your monitor is, and see if you can set it to that. otherwise start the slider at the lower settings and gradually work your way up.

Good Luck

My acer v223w monitor popped p "you are not in prefereed mode so i clicked on preered mode and it wnt blank pleae help

The preferred mode is the resolution at which the display looks best. Unfortunately, you switched to a higher resolution than your monitor can handle.
Now you must start in safe mode and change the resolution.
If you can't do that, hit the F8 key as the computer starts and if you see the option to start in VGA mode, choose that. You can then set your display back to a lower resolution.

QUESTION: Monitor says:

Reboot your computer and press the F8 key right before you see the XP loading splash screen. You should get a menu that lists things like safe mode and vga mode. Select the vga mode option and hit enter twice. This will boot windows into 640x480 resolution and will allow you to change the resolution back to 1024x768 at 60hz

Screen goes black after login

boot in safe mode or vga mode by holding f8 on startup. If you can see vga or safe mode the resoution is too high for the card or monitor. Once in via reduced mode uninstall your video driver and reboot. If it tries to add a driver make sure to set the resolution lower. If low resolution doesn't work then you may have a hardware problem.

No input signal at the monitor when I plug it to a laptop, only when in safe mode I can see the desktop of laptop

When you power up the computer press F8 key then you can see safe mode and other menu enter in "enable VGA mode"
Then go to start ->control panel ->display- settings.
Change screen resolution to 1024*768
Then apply and ok.
then restart then check.
If you still get blank screen then enter in safe mode and uninstall graphic driver from control panel -> add remove program wizard or device manager.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks.

Unsupported Video Configuration Detected

Apparently you set a video resolution which your monitor isn't able to handle. Try booting in safe mode by holding the F8 key at boot, then change resolution to something safe such as 1024x768. Reboot in normal mode and set the resolution you're most comfortable with.

Monitor resolution

Hello,

What do you mean that you were unable to get the native resolution of 1440x900? Are you saying that the resolution varries?

Since you mentioned that the mother board supports 1440x900, try to set the monitor resolution to that same resolution and then restart the computer.

If you will get the same problem, you have to make sure that the video card supports 1440x900 resolution.

Resolution is too high

You need to start the computer in VGA mode. To do that, turn on the computer. Keep pressing the F8 key every second until a boot menu appears. Select enable VGA mode. The computer will boot to a 640 x 480 resolution. From there you can go to your graphics properties and select a more suitable resolution for your monitor.

Annoying Nuisance on the monitor

Run your system in 'Safe Mode'. Go to Display settings and set lowest possible resolution. Then restart computer and run windows again in normal mode. Should have normal screen. If this will not work - then under safe mode uninstall graphic card. Then run windows with standard ones and in LOWEST possible resolution install drivers again. I have had it many times and it made swear first time.
