Several things come into play depending on how far it opens. You could have a broken door spring, a bad drive gear or just an opener that is showing signs of neglect. If you can eliminate the springs and the gear then you might need to lubricate the roller bearings and all the door hinges. There is a control on the rear near where all those white wires go that can increase the force the motor will apply to open the door.

My Liftmaster garage door won't open or close. I hit the button and it make a sound and clicks but won't close

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad. Tell me - if it won't open how do you know it won't close?

I have a 3/4 horsepower liftmaster garage door opener, both the remote and the wall button won't close the garage door but both will open the garage door. however, the garage door will close if I hold...

If when closing the door it reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

My liftmaster garage door opener will open the garage door but won't close it from the wireless remote in my car. what could be the problem

Check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering ever so slightly. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to light you have bad sensors.

Motor runs but door won't open. checked chain, seems to be ok

Hello,

The problem is not the chain, it is the plastic gear in the unit of the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp.The plastic gear is not engaging, although it sounds like it is working.

You will have to replace it with a new one, then the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp will be able to open up once again.

Once you open and remove the old gear, Be sure to thread the screws in all the parts before you install them. Pre-threading them once would really help. Secondly, label the wires on the back of the opener before lowering it to the ladder, so you can put them back in their proper place.

Hope this was helpful.

My nephew kept opening and closing my garage door, now the door won't open with the opener and I can lift it by hand. I tried pulling the cord to move it back to electric but it won't work... any...

The motor has a thermal protector that will cause the motor to quit when it gets hot. If you let it cool off it will automatically reset and should work again.
