Question about Dell Inspiron B120 Notebook

1 Answer

Hey. My problem is this, when I start up my computer, there's a black screen with two things to click on, and I have 30 seconds to choose either one of them. (P.S. it has nothing to do with different users, lol.) One of them doesn't even work; it doesn't do anything. I wish I could explain the problem better. The solution is, I'm sure, fairly simple but I'm ignorant to these computer problems. Please, please, help me. Thank you.

It sounds like the computer is asking what operating system it should boot into. You can remove the choices all together and have it default to which ever one you want. Now to actually do this depends on what OS your running.
XP:

  1. Right click "My Computer" and choose Properties.
  2. Click on the "Advanced" tab
  3. Click on the "Settings" button listed under "Startup and Recovery"
  4. Select the Default Operating System: from the drop down. - this is the OS you want to boot by default
  5. Under "System Startup" there is a check box next to "Time to display list of operating systems". Uncheck this box.
  6. Now OK out of "Startup and Recovery" and "System Properties"
Vista:

Just keep in mind if you select the wrong one then your system will not boot. Just be sure to select the correct entry.

How do I scan a hp laptop?

You need to provide a little more information to get an accurate answer. If you are able to see the log in screen, the display is probably fine. If you are using Windows 8.1, this has been a problem for some of the HP systems after certain updates. You'll need to do a recovery to get things back to normal.

  1. Turn off the computer and wait at least 5 seconds with the computer in a full off state.
  2. Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second, until you see the Windows loading screen.
  3. If a language selection screen opens, select the language you want to use to continue.
  4. On the Choose your keyboard layout screen, select the keyboard layout that matches your keyboard type. On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot .
  5. Choose an option

  6. On the Troubleshoot screen, click Advanced Options .
  7. On the Advanced options screen, click System Restore .
  8. Advanced options
  9. Click Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 as the target operating system. Click Next .
  10. Click the restore point that you want to use, and then click Next .
  11. The Confirm Restore Point window opens.
  12. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

Acer Aspire One notebook.when turn on,starts to boot goes windows did not start screen, can choose option and windows starts to load then just shuts off.if you do not choose option shuts off after about 20...

This is generally a hardware issue - if the computer is under warranty get it fixed through Acer. If not you may need professional help. You don't mention how old the laptop is but if it is older than a year or two and you live in a dusty environment it could be overheating. If the fan is not running or always running on super-high then it is probably overheating.

Another thing to try is using a boot CD (any boot CD will work) and see if the computer still shuts down after that 30 seconds. If yes, definitely hardware. If not, possible that it's a windows issue.

Hope that helps!

I switch the power on power light comes on fan starts as if to boot then nothing, no screen and no keyboard lights

Does BIOS messages appear, or is the screen absolutely black?
If you see BIOS messages and then black screen, you should go to BIOS and choose your boot devices correctly. If there is no screen do the following tip:
1) Turn off the laptop.
2) remove the battery.
3) click and hold power button for about 30 seconds to discharge the circuit from motherboard.
4) then install the battery again
5) and click power button.

See what happens. In many cases it helps.
If there is still black screen, you should check your laptops RAM. In many cases removing and then installing back the RAM helps.

Laptop black screen

You turned on your laptop and horrors upon horrors, the screen is BLACK! You see that the laptop has power but besides that nothing is happening.
I want you to know that there is a very good chance you can get out of this situation quickly and without any cost. This fix works on all brands of laptops:

• 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
• 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
• 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS
That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen.
After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
Replace your battery.
or if wont start
Here are the fix steps:
1. Turn off your computer
2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer.
There will be two tabs labeled 1 and 2.
4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)
6. Go to Control Panel -> (Mobile PC) -> Power Options -> Under Balanced choose change plan settings
7. Choose Change advanced power settings
8. Find Processor power management and change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100% for each On battery and Plugged in.
9. Click Apply then OK
10. Shut down you computer.
11. Disconnect the power cord.
12. Re-install the battery on the bottom of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and restart the computer.

Ok try this, at boot up press F8, when the Menu comes up, choose Safe Mode, but this time instead of going to the desktop, choose System Restore, follow instructions, and when the Calender type window comes up, simply choose a time BEFORE, the time it went faulty. This should completely restore you to working again. As long as there are NO other problems.

Went to go on computer and it is on but screen is black

Hey,

Try this, unplug every thing that is connected to the notebook including the power supply. Remove the battery of the unit. Now press and hold the power button on the notebook for 30 to 40 seconds. Now re-connect every thing and try to power up the machine, you should be up and running.

In case if this also does not work, th you may need to visit the service center, as this could be a memory related issue

Dell xps 1530, gets black out

that's an OS problem, or malware. If you're running Windows, try to boot into safe mode (press F8 and choose "safe mode" or F5) and see if you get your desktop back. You can go directly into recovery mode from the F8 boot mode selection menu also.

Having trouble with your psp???

hey!!! i just got my second psp second hand,
i was playing it for like 30mins then when i went to play on it the next day it started to play up.

basically when-ever i press start the screen will go black for around 10-30 seconds before appearing back, but then the controls will freeze and i have to press 'home' and when it asks if i wanna quit i select 'no' to get it working again.
but sometimes the screen will start randomly switching between the different light settings and just black out for yet another 10-30 seconds,

anything to suggest???? i couldnt stand buying a third one : (
