Sorry, I was not clear. I have a SnapGear SG575 firewall. I need to restrict access to Facebook for all users except for one. I am at a Police Department and we are having issues with users accesseing Facebook, and other social sites, when they should not. I have added Facebook to my blocked URL list in my firewall. However, we have persons in our criminal investigations that do need access to Facebook. SO, I need to restrict access for everyone excpet CID.

There are at least 60 PCs and only two that will need access to social sites.

  • raymondduke Nov 16, 2009

I can, but I am not onsite at this time. I can modify the Hosts file, but what would prevent a user from making changes to the file causing the site to be accessed again? I don't think making changes on the individual PC is the answer for me. I was hoping to make a change on my firewall which would prevent others from accessing it. I do understand there are ways around that also. I think we may need to simply monitor activity and revert back to our AUP

OK ...there are more ways to do it ...example id you have a router ...you cand restrict all access but certain ports that are ususlly used by the mail and instant messaging ..but ...for what you have in mind there is only one easy to use and efficient solution... You will have to buy a program to do that for you ...I looked over for a free one ...even a week version ..but there are no free programs to do that ...
for restricting certain programs that are already installed on the computer ...you can do that from the firewall with an admin account ...and also with the admin acount retreive the admin right sfrom other accounts ...so they will not be able to change it back ...
in this way you can take acces to yahoo or msn messenger and such ...
but for restricting an internet page ( address) you will need a program like those that I linked below....they are not free ...but IM sure that you will find one that will suits your needs..

see witch one have a trial ...and a low cost ...cause I dont expect your employee are experts and need a NASA like software ...

Have a good day!

    Oops!!

OK, in order to restrict the site, either you could use the Firewall or you could use the browser application.

    Go to :

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites > Sites and then you may typehttp://www.facebook.com

It would deny access to the website.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi.

You need to go to your privacy settings and restrict access to your registered friends. Pick all friends in friend list apart one , and restrict access to all pictures. Your friends and visitors will still be able to see that you have a Facebook account, and will view your main picture.

Regards.

Hello raymondduke

How many computers have to have access to facebook and how many need to be blocked? There is always the option of manually blocking facebook on individual computers rather than at the router.

This is a easy fix and requires minimal fuss on your part.

I do not know whether your Cybergaurd can be set up with a specific rule to allow or block specific ip addresses as this is not my area of expertise. If you do want to go this route or have to many computers to manually set up , please reject this solution so that another expert may assist you.

If you want more information on how to block access manually , please reply as a comment on how many computers need to be blocked and what operating system and antivirus/firewall solution you are using on these computers.

Kind Regards
Stephan

Give me a day or two and I will see if I can create a small program that you can run on the computers that should not have Facebook access. This will just recreate all the steps you would manually need to do. I will contact you soon.

    Regards
    Stephan

Can you please forward me a file from one of the computers that need to be blocked.

    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ect\hosts.ics

Please copy and forward this file to epos4stef@gmail.com and I could have a program ready in about 2h.

    Kind Regards
    Stephan

You can always have the modified host file an do a password protected task to replace it every few min.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Block https facebook linksys

Depends on the model router you have.
Generally connect either wired or wireless. Open a internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. A log in for your router may appear and ask for a user name and password. The default for Linksys is user = blank (nothing) and password = admin. If the default has been changed you'll need the user name and password to access the configuration menu.
Then look for URL filter under the Advanced tab or Access Restrictions tab. Type the URL of the website you want to block in the blank. Some will allow you to edit the days of week or times it will not allow access. (ie you can block access M-F and allow on weekends.) Click on apply, submit or save and exit out of the menu.

I want to shot down a deceased person account

You have to options:

Memorializing the account: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=deceased
You can report the account to Facebook so that it can be memorialized. Memorializing the account removes certain more sensitive information like status updates and restricts profile access to confirmed friends only. Please note that in order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone. We do honor requests from close family members to close the account completely.

Removing the account:

Immediate family members may request the removal of a loved one's account. This will completely remove the account from Facebook so that no one can view it. We will not restore the account or provide information on its content unless required by law. If you are requesting a removal and are not an immediate family member of the deceased, your request will not be processed, but the account will be memorialized.

Hope this helps.

What is twitter and what is facebook?

Hi
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers). Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow anybody to access them. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. The service is free to use over the Internet

Facebook is a free-access social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. The website's name refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of a campus community that some US colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff as a way to get to know other people on campus.
