Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

Slow Wireless Connection or even not Detected

Hi!

Got a few issues here which I hope you are able to give some comments.

a. Before my HD crashed, I was able to connect my PC (A) through the wireless router and it worked just fine. Only thing is if another PC (B) tries to access through the router, this PC (B) either is has slow connection or even times out. What is the problem? Both PCs have DHCP dynamically assigned.

b. Before the HD crash, although I was able to connect PC (A) through the router, I didn't put in WEP security. I noticed that if I put in the WEP security, I have slow or internet connection for PC (A) even. What could be the problem? Taking out the WEP security, the wireless connection worked like a charm.

c. Last week, my HD crashed. Reconfigured my PCs and now both PCs has slow connection to the net. Probably because I have put in the WEP protection again. But haven't verified this. When I plugged in the PC via cable though the router, it works more or less OK (slow still but much faster). Nevertheless, the connection seems to be speedier before the crash. Example when I used bit torrents, I was able to get like 50kb/s before but now something around 20kb/s only on the average. Do not think its a virus problem as the whole HD just reformatted.

I am using windows firewall and AVG antivirus for PC (A) and McAfee for PC (B).

Thank you!!!

    hi!

response to solution a: i am sure i have updated the firmware to the latest version. have speed tested my broadband connection and its quite good.

response to solution b: still not happy with the fact that i can't put in the wep security. thinking something wrong somewhere still. it can't be taking up so much overheads till i get time outs, can it? without the wep security, it works like a charm. i've put in the mac filters but think hackers and duplicate my mac address still.

response to solution c: don't think need it now as things are back to normal after taking out the wep security (leaving mac filter on).

ultimately, thanks for your response. if you can help me on the wep thing or if other users can tell me if they have the same problem, it'll be good. at least i know its not my incapability but rather the hardware limitation!

The next best then to mac filtering is, you can disable the SSID broadcast on the router, that way no one sees your wireless network's name that way it will be nearly impossible to figure out what a SSID name is. You can disable the settings under your wireless settings or Tools then performance on the left.

Problem a: could just be your isp is slow therefore when you share the connection it is slow when both pc are connected. Also it could be that your firmware on the router is outdated and creates problems for you. Try updating to the latest firmware go to www.dlink.com and select your router. In addition, i find with dlink if you use their software to control your wireless adapter you get better performance than if you use windows default software.

problem b. Youa re right wep security creates overhead due to encryption will always be slower than no encryption. If you are just worried about people stealing your internet access then i suggest you use unsecure connections but restrict access to the router by mac address. WEP can be hacked easily anyway.

problem c: use port forwarding for your torrent to increase speed. chances are your firewall and antivirus scans everything thus slowing down your connections.

good luck

I bought this model, and a year and a week later the drive crashed. After arguing, Gateway replaced the HD. One year later, it crashed again. I was getting BlueScreen Of Death dumps each turnoff. ...

Try reinstalling vista again first to avoid another drive. Could be just a conflicting driver issue or deleted dll or something altered by a program or malware/virus and even virus protectors do their job too well and remove certain files that maybe a virus was attached to.

Hi,

What i suggest is try to download the driver of your video card from the manufacturers website. Also try to use a different HDMI cable and try also the laptop to other T.V. with HDMI connection and see if its having same error. If happend its doing the same thing try to reinstall Operating System and if that steps does not resolved the issue, call the manufacturer because the HDMI port is not working, its a hardware problem.

Have you added any hardware since it last worked OK such as RAM or changed the HD? If so take it out and try again. Have you changed any BIOS settings? If so set them back to how they were and try again?

Did the system crash and you are trying to reformat it? If so you may have an HD or HD Controller problem.

Does your system boot from the Op Sys CD / DVD? If so leave it doing nothing for up to 60 mins to make sure the system is not overheating. If it crashes while you are doing nothing then it could be any number of problems but most likely are RAM problems, CPU problems and HD problems. You could try downloading a copy of PCHealth or SiSoft Sandra to try out and diagnose the system to see if it reports any issues.

Failing all that then take it to a repoair shop for an estimate!

Toshiba satellite A105,My wife dropped laptop now when you try to start I get error message operating system not found, try to boot to bios and get several quick beeps

Harddrive has probably crashed or the connection have become loose. Flip the laptop over and look for the Harddrive assembly. Usually has 1 screw holding it in place. If you feel comfortable enough - remove the screw and pull the HD out and slide it back into place. See if the connections are simply loose.. If that does not work you probably need to replace the HD.

Laptop crashes when moved

many important devices are located from the underside of pc...mem cards,hd,wifi...
if pc at some stage has had a knock hd or mem could be not seated properly.if ur on battery check to see if loose and check power cable connection..though the battery or power cable shouldnt cause it to crash...
if it is not hd or mem it will be something more difficult to access but again something loose or making short...cpu or vga but check hd and mem first for now..

Lenovo T60 interfacing with Vizio HDTV using RGB cable

The X1400 supports Full-HD resolution. Full-HD/True-hd (1920x1080)
The best output would be via DVI but you are limited with the VGA port.
I would purchase a Grand Hi-Wire PC to HDTV converter from www.globalcomputer.com. Item # G126-1036 @ $139.99

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I have a iomega mdhd500-ue for about past ten months.when switched on it useually whirls into action but now it is just making a repeated clicking sound and it is not connecting to my laptop

I have a MDHD500-N Iomega external HD that had the same issue - clicking at startup and flashing power LED. I noticed that the supplied power transformer for the unit is 12V 1A and the sticker on the HD enclosure says 12V 2A. I hooked up the HD enclosure directly to a power supply - at boot up, the HD draws 2.5A, more than double what the provided power transformer can output. HD enclosure runs beautifully on an external PS.
