Red Vertical Lines - Sony Grand Wega 42"

Actual model is sony Grand Wega KF42WE620. I am getting red vertical lines across the screen...thicker on the left side. Sometimes they come & go, but they seem to be there constantly now. I tried unplugging the tv for a couple of hours so it could reset itself...it worked for about 1 day & then the lines were back.
What would the issue be?

I went to the website you suggested but couldn't find anything? Is there a particular area of that page that I'm supposed to look? All the menu items seemed to be "Watch News TV", "Watch Sports TV", etc.??

Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them to replace the part or just fix the TV?

Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.

read this if you think it's the same problem

SOURCE: vertical multicolored lines covering the whole screen

Just a shot in the dark, but if you are using component video cables, double check that they are in the correct inputs and outputs. If this doesn't work or you are not using component video cables then I don't have any other ideas as of now.

no, it is not the lamp, the DIC 2 board is bad.in this case it is best to have a sony certified technician come out to give you an estimate. the board is expensive and the lvds cables attached to it are verrrry
fragile and expensive also.

who ever has problem with rear pj tv's here a simple thing that the manufactoring wont tell that there are vents on these units and filter that needs to be cleaned every month and if you have hairy pets more often. the thing that happening is the system is getting no air
and the lcd is burning up i know this because i've taking them apart
over and over its the same reaction you get for leaving you laptop pc in the sun or in cold weather. extreme enviroment is the culprit. if you see these problems its big money other wise cleaning these vents and filter gives you long life to lamp and the lcds difsusion plate would do something else.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

That sounds like a bad convergence board, they cause red lines like that when they go bad. Lemme see if I can find some specifics on your model, and getting parts for it.

I would look for a Vertical circuit failure. Most likely is the vertical output IC and or open resistor off the hv transformer. Definitely look for any loose solder connections around the Vertical output IC.
Hope this helps,

Blue Vertical Lines on the screen

It means the optical block is going bad. Contact Sony support. They will sometimes warranty these even after the 1yr warrany has expired. Have your model and serial numbers handy.

Sony KF50WE610 Vertical Blue Lines Across Screen

the vertical blue lines indicate some interference from other electronic gadgets near your tv. it started showing up on my sony grand wega when i installed my wireless modem. i almost ordered a new rear projection lamp costing over $100 but decided to experiment. i first moved my desk computer farther away from the tv then isolated the wireless modem router by placing it inside a small glass - the vertical blue lines became lighter in color so i dedided to find another small glass that fit inside the first glass container then put the router in the double glass - no more blue lines and my wireless modem router still works.
do some deductive thinking to figure out what's messing up your tv and isolate the interference.
good luck!

Vertical lines

IF the area of the OSD (on screen display) displays the same vertical blue lines as the rest of the screen, then it is most likely the optical block assembly at fault. It's part number is A1606006A and should cost close to $2,000. I'm assuming the set is out of warranty. I know many people are hooked on Sonys, but as a technican that works on them, I wouldn't want one in my home.
