- I had a similar problem except that in my case the washer would not fill with water. I have a GE GSD4920Z dishwasher. The repair guy came this morning and said that the solenoid had jammed and that I would need a new motor assembly - total price $379. When I checked on the internet I found this thread and took a look at the 'piston' which is the moving part of the solenoid. I squirted it with WD40 and made sure that the piston was moving freely. Just ran the washer and everything is now working.- GuestAug 12, 2008

GE Prifile dishwashers have a valve called a "Piston" and an "O" -Ring under the screen that become degraded over time. The part is around $10 and it takes about an hour to do the repair. You can do this yourself if you are handy and have some simple tools. You can go to the GE website and get a free owners manual.
