Question about Computers & Internet
I have a dell gtx270 that i recently retrieved from storage after about a year. Before storage i kept getting a thermal fault upon startup.I had to try restart several times and finally it would stay on.I found no visual problems and no heating problem inside the case before trying to restart.the problem of course is still happening but wondered if i could get some help on this matter. What does this message mean exactly and what do i need to repair or replace to correct this problem? all help appreciated..thnks
Check for bad capacitors on the motherboard. The GX270 boards seem to have issues with this. See if the caps have a bulged X on the top and are not flat on
Check out badcaps.net for help in determining if they are bad.
Also one other thing to check. Look at the North-bridge heatsink and see if it has a Z shaped wire running across it. On some Dell machines instead of the Z shaped wire there will be two U shaped wires running across the heatsink. Whether it is one Z shaped wire or two U shaped wires the ends of the wires will be connected to "eyes" on the motherboard.
These wires are part of the temperature sensing circuit. If one of the "eyes" connected to the motherboard is broken off you will get an overheating error.
