Olympus Stylus 840 - lens won't open

Olympus Stylus 840:

The lens won't open. I am unable to take pictures, but I am able to review my old pictures. I was taking pictures one afternoon (successfully), turning the camera on and off throughout the afternoon. Then I tried turning it on, and it wouldn't work. I thought maybe the battery was dead.

But I have charged the battery, and it still will not work - only able to see saved pictures. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Thanks.

I have a olympus stylus 840 and the lens wont retract tried taking the battery out tried lightly pushing the lens but it wont move it just gives me a beeping sound. I cant get anything to come up cant take pictures I can check my saved pictures but thats all.

You need to take it or send it for repair. There is nothing you can do yourself.

SOURCE: Olympus Stylus 730 Digital - Won't work 60 days old

I'm having the exact same problem. I was in the middle of zooming on a shot and it froze, so I turned the camera off and on, and now I get the 5-chimes+Zoom Error screen. This is nuts, I've only had the thing for six months, and it was $250 (got the Stylus 730). I *think* I got a replacement plan so that's good. But still... I hope circuit city lets me get a different brand b/c I'm not happy with this now. The only problem I had before was the HORRID shutter delay. I want a model that doesn't have that problem .

I just called technical support and they told me the camera has an internal problem. You have to call them if your camera is still under warranty and send it to a repair center.

SOURCE: Panorama Feature on Olympus Stylus 840

Forget the in-pano function and use a free stitching program off the internet. When shooting panoramas, you need to be in aperature priority or manual mode so as to keep the exposure consistant, especially going into the sun or away from it in your pictures. Although this is good practice, it is not needed for a few stitch programs as they average out all the exposures and make the entire pic uniform. This works pretty good in all but the most demanding exposure swings.

Why, when turned on, my Stylus 840,shows an LED display that looks like night time with pink and blue colors. If photo is taken, it comes out pink. Why is this? Any suggestions as to why this is do

I'm afraid you have a defective camera. Or the sensor is defect, or the connection to the sensor is not good. (lose, oxidised, broken or lots of other stuff) also the main board can be defect. If also the pictures come out (on the computer) dark and pink, I.m afraid you have to start saving for a new camera.
Make sure the lens is clean and not greasy.

1. Sand or foreign object in the lens cover.2. bad motor or gears.
Try cleaning with canned air while powering the camera up/down...

I have the stylus 840. When turning it on the lens comes out and goes right back in twice, then the "alarm" sounds 4 times and then it turns back off.

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

The card access lamp on the olympus stylus 7010 blinks and then the camera powers off. What might the problem be?

Does it work in picture review mode? If so try turning the camera off and pushing the lens assembly in towards the body of the camera, otherwise, is the battery charged? Does anything come up on the screen?

I have the same problem. Have you come across a solution? It's definately my lens and not my battery. Where did you go to get the lens looked at and repaired?

The very delicate and fragile lens mechanism has been skewed by that knock. Try Olympus for a repair price but I suspect you will be buying that new camera once you see the price
