I already tried this a few times and I still have the same problem. Empty Tray message.

I have already tried several times taking the tray out, wiping the sensors down etc. It did not resolve the issue. I continue to get the empty tray message.

See if this works....

1. Make sure the tray is out of the machine for at least 8 seconds when emptying it.

2. Allow the Impressa 1-2 seconds after reinserting the tray for it to sense the tray.

3. Use running water to rinse the area around the contacts on the tray to remove any coffee residue build-up. The machine may be sensing the moisture retained in those old grounds.

If the contacts and switch are clean and it won't reset. You may also need to use a tiny bit of lubrication on the contact switch to ensure it moves freely and easily.

You could also take a tiny piece of cardboard and gently wedge it into the contact switch to trick the sensor...

If none of this works, then then it sounds like your machine may be defective

I don't know with your exact model... On some models, it's located on the tray itself. On other models, it's located somewhere on the unit where the tray slides into.

I had the same problem a lot and had tried cleaning the sensors many times but still "Empty Tray" keeps returning. However, I found out that the culprit turns out to be a hot water leak right above the sensors. The high temperature O-ring (red color) was completely worn out at the hot water supply line. I replaced this O-ring and no more leak above as well as the sensors remain dry thus eliminates the "Empty Tray" error.

Empty Tray

@Derekns74 How do you remove the switch? My C3000 also reads "EMPTY TRAY" constantly, even if the tray is empty and clean. It does not display the "EMPTY GROUNDS" error only "EMPTY TRAY"

If I remove the tray it display "TRAY MISSING" but whenever I insert the tray again, it reads "EMPTY TRAY"

On one occasion when our power went out, it fixed the machine, so that it stopped reading "EMPTY TRAY," but after a day or two it stopped working and displayed the same EMPTY TRAY error message again.

MY Coffee machine continues to say "Empty Tray". I

try taking the tray out and leaving it out for like 2 hours with the machine still in the on position. mine has done this before, when i reinsert the tray it will go back to select coffee on the menu. FYI - there is like a built in timer for the tray removal - I believe it will tell you what the timing is in the booklet - howver it works best to do what is stated above.

Reads "empty tray". Tray is empty, clean, and dry. We have tried unplugging machine and resetting, The machine has not worked in 3 days.

The tray may have some redidual soiling around the electrical contacts at the back.

Try cleaning the contacts and see what happens.

The tray (JURA J5) keeps indicating that it needs to be emptied inspite of it being empty. How can i fix this problemo? Thank you.

The connectors at the back have liquid on them use a lint free cloth to remove the liquid and the tray fault will go away. If you want to prevent this make sure that when you pour the water out the tray you pour it out the side not the back and this is how the liquid or debris gets stuck there

My Jura Impressa xs90 keeps stating fill system, even after filling the system several times for the last 3 days.

Empty the Water tank and fill it with warm water. Then keep trying for some time and the problem will get solved.

Impressa z5 grounds empty will not reset even though the tray has been empty and the contacts cleaned

If the machine says TRAY MISSING it's the contacts at the back so clean as other people have stated, you can also use a cardboard nail file to clean the contacts at the back if there really skanky!.

If the machine keeps saying EMPTY GROUNDS even though you have, pull out the tray, look just inside the aparture where the tray goes top right at the front there is a small slot where if you look closely you can see a small white micro switch. This will be probably gunged up with coffee and the switch will be stuck up, get a can of WD40 and squirt a small amount up into the switch then poke the switch with a small screwdriver up and down until it moves smoothly.

Then replace all the bits, sit down, look smug and have a coffee cos you've fixed it!! :0)

Machine says malfunction and won't froth milk

If you have a rotarywheel; Press and hold to enter the menu, turn to Maintenance, select Decalcify unit; empty tray as requested, fill up 600ml water in a container. Disolve 3 Descaling tablets in the water, and then fill it in the watertank. Press Maintenance button and you`re off.

If you don`t have a Rotary; Turn off the machine and let it cool down for a while, then push the Rinse/Maintenance button for a few seconds; then you will get the message Empty tray. Fill the solution in the watertank and press button.

It`s important that you use the right amount of water, or else the process will "never" finish.
