Question about Sony Televison & Video
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000 37 inch 10 months old. We had a regular DirectTV connection. Worked fine. We upgraded to DVR with DirectTV & ever since then, there has been 2 inch thick vertical gray bars on both sides of the picture! When we use our HDMI DVD player the bars aren't there, when we use our PS2 OR PS3 - the bars aren't there either! And yes, we did set our DirectTV to 16.9, so thats not it. DirectTV said that the DVR isnt a HD receiver, yet it has Buttons for 480i,480p,720p,1080i & resolution! My ps2 isnt hd,but there's no bars there!Im thinking I have to connect it a different way or something? I don't know, that's why I'm asking the Experts! Please help me out, before we break our TV,DVR,PS3 & every other electronic initialed thing I can find! :) Thank you!!!!

try switching the resolution settings on the DVD player and/or the TV. I have had a similar problem and there was a manual switch i missed.

SOURCE: PS3 wont go 1080i/720p
I don't think there is a way to set your resolution manually, bro. They do it all by auto. If I may make a suggestion... Turn off both the TV & PS3. Unplug your HDMI, then make sure both your TV & PS3 are turned ON. Now re-connect your HDMI. A TV tech once told me that these units "communicate" through the HDMI. This can only occure whilst they're up & running. This may help get you going on to 1080i.
p.s. PS3 games only output 720p, max! This isn't always the case for Blu Ray movies, but it is for games. Good luck!
