Toshiba Factory Reset 1) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory 2) This link shows you how to use the partition http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears choose "repair your computer"
If that option is NOT available then you will need to Order CDs from Toshiba - http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/m-p/9148#U9148

SOURCE: how to recovery the system from recovery partition

Did you know you only get ONE shot at creating a recovery disc? And most of the time it is garbage, just like Vista.

He tried to put XP on it and failed? weird.

A couple things you can do...

1. Get your hands on a Vista disk. If you know anyone that works in IT, you can borrow a Vista disk. Do a complete fresh install. Use your "Product Key" and you will have your own Licensed, perfectly legal version of Vista.

2. Get yourself a copy of XP. Delete all partitions, then create a new one. Don't try to save that Vista recovery partition...it's toast. I recommend XP, but I'm a dinosaur.

If you know anyone that works in IT, you can borrow

Missing Operating System on D: partition Bootup

Follow the steps from this site http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Active-Partition-of-Your-Hard-Disk-with-Parted-Magic. When you changed the active partition you told the computer to look for information from the wrong partition. Using the program from that site will allow you to make the other partition active again. You'll then be able to boot into Windows again. As far as making backup discs, I believe you hit F11 while booting to access the recovery partition. From there you can make your recovery discs. Not 100 percent sure on that though. And you will need to get the windows partition set back as active first.

Can I dl or burn to disc the factory reset for my gateway nv5105u laptop? I have lost that CD

If you have lost the CD you can try to do a factory reset from the recovery partition. Make sure you haven't formatted or deleted any partition in the computer since your purchase.

Using the Recovery Partition to perform Recovery.

First turn off your computer
Turn on the system and keep tapping the F11 key
system will boot into recovery partition. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Boot into Gateway System Recovery - Press F11 to Start Recovery.
  2. On the System Recovery Menu screen, press the ALT+D keys.
  3. At the command prompt, type: D: and then press ENTER.
  4. At the D:\ prompt, type: CD Windows\i386 and then press ENTER.
  5. At the C:\Windows\I386 prompt, type: dir filename.* and then press ENTER.
  6. Verify if the file name has an underscore ( _ ) in the extension. Example: appwiz.cp_. If the file has an underscore, it has to be expanded. If it does not have an underscore, the file can be copied without expansion.
  7. If file has an underscore, expand the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Expand filename.**_ C:\Destination. Example: Expand appwiz.cp_ C:\Windows\System32
  8. If file does not have an underscore, copy the file to the destination. At the command prompt, type: Copy filename C:\Destination. Example: Copy atmadm C:\Windows\System32
  9. At the command prompt, type: Exit.
  10. Once back at the menu, click Quit. The computer restarts.
It should be reset to Factory settings.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY RECOVERY PARTITION OR HAVE DELETED THE PARTITION THEN PLEASE REVERT SO THAT I CAN HELP YOU TO GET A RECOVERY DISC.

Thank you for using Fixya..!!

Recovery partition not found - but it is there

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your difficulty. Usually in your kind of situation data can easily be recovered using any Windows data recovery software. But my personal suggestion to you is to first try to run a demo version first and if you see directory list of your lost data then only proceed with the purchase.

Sometimes when OS fail to install then file System of your hard drive can go corrupt which can result to partition not found error.

I just need a vista recovery manager & system recovery files, because my recovery disc become corrupt & i m unable to recover the factory settings, please help me

You can use Hiren recovery CD (you can found it only on torrent). For file recovery (copy), you can use linux Mint live CD, and copy your files to memory stick. If you share partitions with Samba file sharing (Control Panel) you can scan this computer from another one with antivirus scanner.
You can try going to 'Safe mode with networking' pressing F8 on start of computer (every 1 second, and dos menu will come). From safe mode, you can download ESET (Nod32) antivirus online scanner, and try to fix problem with scanning (use repair option).

Good luck!

Gateway laptop reset

Gateway Direct systems went "media-less" back in September 2004. In the event of a system crash users could either 1) restore their systems from the Recovery Partition OR 2) from the backup media that they were prompted to create on first power-up -- which would provide them with up to 5 blank CD-R discs depending on their system's configuration.

On the factory load of the hard drive, the recovery partition will not contain operating system files. It only contains application and driver files.
The first time the recovery partition is used, it prompts the user to insert their System Recovery CD/DVD to copy files from the CD to the recovery partition.
The Drivers and Applications CD is not bootable and does not contain Operating System files.
The System Recovery CD/DVD is bootable but does not contain any application or driver files.
If the end-user erases the hard drive and restores the computer using the System Recovery CD/DVD and an Applications and Drivers CD, the recovery partition is not recreated.

This means that you will need the operating system restore disc FIRST then the recovery partition will work for you

To create a recovery partition in harddisk

Unfortunately the Recovery partition could not be reacreated manually. But you can recover it by using the Y410 Recovery Disc but that means reinstalling everything and youll end up with windows vista again. You can reinstall XP but do not delete the partition that usually has 10-15GB of space because that is the hidden partition for the recovery. You can call 18774536686. If your computer is out of warranty, it would only cost you 59$ for the recovery disc

Sata hdd windows dell recovery cd will partition install windows

The system is originally designed to use IDE HDD, make sure the necessary chages for Sata HDD are made in the BIOS, next make sure the Recovery disc is fine without any scratches. You can order a new Windows OEM recovery disc by calling Dell tech support (1-800-624-9896-US) and try installing the OS. The disc will cost you not more than $12.

Hi. I cannot defrag D Recovery Drive due to lack of space.

You do NOT need to defrag the recovery partition. The contents of that partition are most likely in a compressed form, and in any case, unchanging, so do not require a defrag. It's a good idea to leave the recovery partition absolutely alone.

For future reference, if you need to defragment a normal partition in low space conditions, try something advanced like Diskeeper 2008. Diskeeper is the best and most powerful defragmenter, and can defragment drives with even less than 5-10% free disk space. By comparison, the windows defragger requires atleast 15%, and yet does not defrag system files.

Have to make partition as C and D drive

Since you have used the recovery disc to restore the system, it will automatically create partitions on the system, in your case, just one major partition which is Drive C (C:). If you want to add partitions on your system, you can use partition editor software such as Norton Partition Magic 8.0 and Acronis Partition Manager. These software gets a portion of the main Partition (Unused / Free space) and creates a new one. You can create multiple partitions depending on the size of the Hard Drive on the system. These Software are not Free, if you want to use a free software for editing the parition, you can use Gparted (Found in : http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ ). Though Gparted is free, it is harder to use compared to the first 2 software mentioned. If you want to use a user friendly sofware, I suggest that you use Acronis Partition Manager or Norton Partition Magic 8.0.

2nd partition disk drive D: is not accessible

Several brands now have the recovery software and backup of your computer on the D: partition.

You probably have XP (Vista doesn't try to stop you from viewing the contents of the drive). I would recommend using a 3rd party explorer clone to move the music files back to the C: and leave that partition alone. Also if you have not made your recovery discs yet do so before messing with the recovery partition.

On an HP or Compaq the recovery disc manager can be found under HP or under PC Help & Tools in the start menu.
