I just bought a Fender VF3 electric violin - used I might add - but in excellent shape and barely used. As a matter of fact - it is mint. It acted normal the first couple of weeks I used it through an amp and in the studio. Last time I tried recording in the studio - volume was weak - then mid thru a track the volume jumped sky high. volume seems to cut in and out. Tested thru an amp (instead of the Focusrite mic preamp into the board) and it contiunally did the same thing. Checked - there is no battery with this instrument.

The piezo pickups for violins REQUIRE a high impedance input preamp.

The measured impedance of My wife's violin is on the order of 2 megohms.

It sounds like you are having cable connection problems. If you don't have a preamp right at the vilin, then use a VERY short high impedance instrument cable.

Most of the Focusrite mic preamps I looked at had input impedance around 5K ohms which is unsuitable for the piezo pickups.

Here we use an Autolycus pickup on an acoustical vilin and an X2 wireless system. The transmiter has a very high input impedance and the resulting system sounds like a violin.

Some amps themselves DO have a high input impedance, but many designed for guitars do not. Long cables, especially low impedance ones, load the piezo pickup with capacitance which clobbers the high frequency response.

It varies depending on condition and your particular market, but in my market a used Squier Standard in good shape runs $125-150.

Owners manual for fender dg 22 ce guitar

Go to Fender's site and see: http://intl.fender.com/en-CA/support/articles/?section=articles&search=maintenance. There are other articles that can add up to a manual, but a manual isn't usually part of an acoustic's "case candy". There just isn't much difference between one acoustic and another in form and function.

The d string on my yamaha ev 204 electric violin has no volume w/ the volume is turned up . Any suggestions?

Hello, what a great violin to own, I am jealous. Each string on your violin has a pickup sensor under it. So, what you have are 4 sensors (one for each string) and the signals are then fed into your violin's electronics and mixed there to provide a wonderful rich sound. The sensor under the D string has a problem. I would look there first and in the electronics package last. The best advice I can offer is this, I also am a musician and play violin and 12 string ovation guitar. I have worked on both my instruments, unless you are very skilled in your knowledge of electronics and the delicate work on the sensors on your violin, I would take it to a craftsman (person) that has the skills to change out the sensor. Sometimes it can be a bad solder connection in the electronics, especially with the vibrations that an instrument causes, again, this would be for someone extremely skilled in instrument repair.
